Chapter Pipeline Coordinator 

The Democratic Socialists of America is a member-run, socialist organization with more than 280 groups in every state and the District of Columbia engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our immediate goal is to build working-class power against the capitalist class while advancing transformative reforms like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal, supporting a robust labor movement, electing socialists to office, and shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism. DSA is a "big tent," multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democracy and socialism.

 

This position will report directly to the Operations Director and work closely with the Organizing team to provide administrative and organizing support to groups from the interest phase to incorporation. 

 

Responsibilities

·       Be point of first contact for new chapter organizing, in DSA and YDSA queries via phone, email, and official forms.

·       Maintain the list of zip codes for the Zip Code lookup tool.

·       Liaison to DSA and YDSA Chapter Pipeline volunteers and oversee administration and infrastructure of pipeline

·       Maintain chapter master list and keep files for all paperwork from new DSA and YDSA pre-organizing committees, organizing committees, and chapters

·       Create and maintain a way for chapters to submit amended bylaws and notify other staff of significant changes such as the creation of new branches

·       Keep records of each OC/chapter's election month and contact them before and after to find out if they understand the process for electing or submitting updated leadership

·       Coordinate with OC and chapter leaders to ensure we have each group's comprehensive public contact information (links, emails, etc) on the website

·       Coordinate new DSA and YDSA Chapter Welcome mailings and other admin-related mailings (Democratic Left bundle requests; reminders to submit updated contact information after elections; information about application status and next steps; etc)

·       Connecting chapters with Development Director to begin building out local grassroots fundraising infrastructure 

·       Bottomline incorporation and dues sharing process

·       Facilitate calls, trainings, and office hours for pre-OCs, OCs, and chapters on matters such as, but not limited to, navigating the pipeline, incorporation, treasurer best practices, etc.

·       Visit pre-OCs and OCs to provide direct support to these groups as they navigate the pipeline. 

 

 

Requirements

·       One to two years professional administrative support experience with a non-profit or advocacy group

·       One to two years of organizing and/or volunteer recruitment and management

·       Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once and use limited resources effectively

·       Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS and Google Office Suites

·       Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and general communication skills

·       A strong relationship-builder and team player

·       Handles high pressure situations with positive attitude, tact and professionalism

·       Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of YDSA and DSA

 

Preferred

·       Familiarity with non-profits and/or advocacy groups' start-up phase 

·       Familiarity with Asana

·       Popular or political education background

·       Creativity

·       Sense of humor

 

Reports to: Operations Director

 

Work Schedule: Full-time. Work hours will fluctuate according to campaign needs and members' availability.

 

Salary: $42,500-$47,500, non-exempt, depending on experience.

 

Location: Remote

 

Benefits: We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter. 

 

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
