DISTRICT DIRECTOR
Office of Congressman-Elect Mondaire Jones (NY-17)
Congressman-elect Mondaire Jones is hiring a full-time District Director to oversee all district office operations in New York's 17th Congressional District, which covers all of Rockland County and parts of central/northern Westchester County.
A product of East Ramapo public schools, Congressman-elect Jones was raised in Section 8 housing and on food stamps in the Village of Spring Valley by a single mother who worked multiple jobs to provide for their family. He later graduated from Stanford University, worked at the Department of Justice during the Obama Administration, and graduated from Harvard Law School. He is a co-founder of the nonprofit Rising Leaders, Inc. and has previously served on the NAACP's National Board of Directors and on the board of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Most recently, he worked as a litigator in the Westchester County Law Department.
The District Director will play a critical role in establishing the Congressman-elect's district offices and operations. The District Director will oversee, and play a critical role in developing, the Congressman-elect's in-district activities, as well as manage all staff in the two district offices (Rockland and Westchester). The District Director will also play a critical role in developing the Congressman-elect's policy objectives and strategies within the district.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
Directly supervises all district employees; carries out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training district office employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining district office employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems
Responds regularly to constituent telephone calls and mail, and keeps abreast of local concerns
Represents the Congressman as needed and speaks to local groups and elected officials on behalf of the Congressman
Maintains close communication with the Washington, D.C. office
Travels throughout the district at regular intervals and works a flexible schedule, often including long hours, nights, and weekends
Schedules meetings with federal and district government agencies as necessary
Qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor's degree, including strong academic credentials in addition to 7-10 years of management experience, ideally experience in government and/or policy.

In-depth knowledge of New York's 17th Congressional District -- including stakeholders, major issues, and key communities
In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and departments
Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner
Understanding of the federal political process
Superb organizational and management experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of legislative process and of House organization and procedures
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others
Timeline and Compensation:
This is a full-time, paid position beginning in early January 2021 based in New York's 17th Congressional District. Salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
