Happy Thanksgiving week JTAL family!  

What a year!! The privilege of managing this list is being able to send out the occasional personal email. Despite how crazy this year has been I'm grateful for so much including so many of you that make up our extraordinary community of progressive political advocates, organizers, and overall changemaker.  I hope you are celebrating safely and able to spend time with family - even if only by zoom. Despite the unprecedented pandemic and the horrific administration managing it, I'm thankful for so much and so many, especially those on the frontlines fighting it and finding a vaccine. Personally, I've been blessed to do impactful work from home this year and want to invite you to two upcoming events related to it. One you should all attend called RootsCamp. Much more info is below and we'll be promoting it aggressively over the next two weeks.

Most of you know me from this list, GAIN POWER, and maybe some other domestic political work so you may not know that I also started a nonprofit called GLOBAL GAIN - to support women in politics globally, build a network linking organizers here with global advocates and more. It is very much in its infancy as an organization but I do have a few projects going on now. Monday is my birthday and Tuesday is #GivingTuesday and to celebrate both I'm organizing an event to share more information about it and raise money for some of our current projects. If you are up for learning more - please join me. Contributions are appreciated but not required. Global GAIN #GivingTuesday event on Monday, November 30, 8 pm ET

This Monday, November 30, is my birthday, and I'm having a "party" (zoom) to celebrate at 8 ET. I don't care much about my birthday, but it is a great excuse to bring attention to #GivingTuesday, the following day, and some passion projects that could use support. I hope you might join to learn more about Global GAIN (not related to GAIN POWER) and the programs we support, including the Akilah Institute, a new join self-named DRC Home/Monique's children. I'm excited to have a dedicated performance by one of my favorite singers - Rob Drabkin too.

If you worked on this election - this message is for you.  I want to invite you to register for RootsCamp this year and to participate in some meaningful way. If you've been to a RootsCamp in years past, you know it is great learning and networking experience. This RootsCamp is unlike any other before. We miss in-person gatherings for many reasons, but the upside to being virtual is that it is more accessible and affordable. Regardless of where you are - you can join us and participate. If you represent a campaign, consulting firm, technology, advocacy organization - or any other type of organization that works on progressive campaigns and elections, we hope you will sign up and be in the Expo. We are especially eager to have you if you are hiring or expanding your team in any way. The Virtual Expo is a great place to showcase your work, programs, projects, technology, and more.

We are so excited to announce that we are partnering with Democracy Initiative, NN/New Media Mentors, Organizing 2.0, and re:power to expand our post-election career conference into something even more amazing that you may have attended in the past. RootsCamp. Register Today RootsCamp brings together a coalition of leaders in the Democratic and Progressive political, electoral, advocacy and governing space to debrief and use 2020 hindsight to dissect what we all just experienced with an eye to moving forward together and plotting what comes next. There will be workshops, trainings, panel discussions, consulting and networking opportunities, visionary speakers, an organization expo, and a provocative debate around strategy and practices. RootsCamp will be taking place online December 11-12th. We will be scheduling panels throughout the day, so you can participate no matter where you are. Our goal is to provide an open and transparent place for conversation around what happened on the 2020 campaign, how we move forward in 2021, 2022, and beyond, and to build a community for the amazing people who did the hard work on campaigns to help gain power and support them as they develop their activism and careers. RootsCamp 2020 includes segmented programs in which individual participants can move back and forth seamlessly between each from the comfort of your home or wherever you may be. Un-conference Style Programming: The RootsCamp "unconference" model allows organizers to meet and debrief in a way that promotes shared learning and engagement. Participants are the presenters! Participants not only take away lessons to apply to their own work, they establish lasting new partnerships with organizers from all over the nation. Career Panels: Sessions are designed to help campaign talent navigate a post-election world. The panels will highlight the breadth of the progressive movement, the skills you need to hone, the sectors you can work in, and the movements and issue areas to work in next. Hear and learn from leaders about their career journey and get advice on how and where to seek out new opportunities to succeed in your career. Individual sessions will be on skills, sectors, and movements. Skills Training: In coordination with some of the leading trainers in our space today, we're offering pre-planned sessions in field organizing, fundraising, digital tools, and more. Political Marketplace, Organizational Expo, Hiring Hall: Our platform has a virtual setting where organizations can market their programs, products, and services, along with any jobs they have available.
