J Street is seeking a skilled writer and digital strategist to help grow our membership and lead our scrappy digital team in online fundraising, advocacy and content strategy.
The digital director plays a pivotal role in J Street's communications department, but works closely with every part of the organization. They create campaigns to support the objectives of the government affairs team; facilitate event recruitment for the regional team; work with the public engagement team to create and implement informational webpages and videos; devise plans to grow our J Street membership list; and work with J Street's PAC to bring in funding and volunteers in support of our 150 endorsees in Congress and the White House. That's just a start.

Key responsibilities:
- Manage the work and professional growth of three-person digital team;
- Thoughtfully manage J Street's email calendar, coordinating regional/local email campaigns (drafted by the digital team) and national priorities including major events, fundraising drives, educational pushes and advocacy campaigns
- Draft and implement content for jstreet.org and help manage all online properties and social media channels
- Own online small-dollar fundraising for J Street and JStreetPAC
- Help craft campaigns and oversee special projects to educate and activate key audiences in support of J Street's political and policy goals
- Advise and support all departments in graphic design projects and the production of promotional materials;
- Oversee ambitious list-growth effort through paid and organic strategies
- Train staff members and local leaders on how to use digital tools to be better advocates
- Employ digital expertise and creativity in support of efforts of all other departments; in a single day you may help students craft tweets, design banners for political event recruitment, draft emails for leadership briefings and consult on database synch processes.
Desired Skills and characteristics:
- The ability to write quickly and communicate nuanced messaging clearly is absolutely essential.
- Success in this role will require knowledge of the policy and political dynamics of the US-Israel relationship and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a digital position with a political campaign or advocacy organization. Experience with email and social media strategy is important.
- Candidate should be a strong team player, with a good customer-service demeanor, able to interact with any and all J Street departments and balance competing priorities.
- Fluency in basic HTML is needed and comfort with advanced HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and other web languages is beneficial, but can be learned on the job.
- Some graphic design experience is preferred as the digital director often assists with the creation of graphics, video, and document formatting. Proficiency in the Adobe Suite (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier and InDesign) is a plus.

J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans working for the future of Israel as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people. The organization believes that preserving Israel's Jewish and democratic character depends on achieving a two-state solution, resulting in a Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.
Launched in 2008 with four staff and a limited budget, J Street is now a $10 million organization with a national staff of more than 60. Compensation and Hours
Salary for qualified candidates for Digital Director starts at $75,000. Hours and duties may fluctuate based on J Street event and staff travel schedules.
