Candidate Overview
Maria Ordoñez is an organizer & activist and the youngest woman to be running for City Council in New York City. From being elected in 2019 as one of the youngest County Committee members in Manhattan to being elected as the youngest 2020 Presidential delegate in New York State to represent Bernie Sanders in the DNC. Maria is a life-long Harlem resident who is running a grassroots campaign fighting for the many.
Campaign Manager Job Description
The campaign manager will oversee all aspects of the campaign including day-to-day operations, the hiring and management of staff, the coordination and implementation of the fundraising operations and ongoing coordination with the candidate. They must have excellent organizational skills, be a team player, have good interpersonal skills, scheduling, be knowledgeable of the district, be willing to travel to the district for meetings, canvassing, and/or petitioning, and not be afraid to fundraise.
Responsibilities Include
- Formulate, manage, and execute a campaign plan with candidate.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the campaign.
- Hire, train and manage staff and volunteers.
- Help coordinate fundraising operations.
- Work with candidate on a campaign budget.
- Manage candidate's schedule and daily activities.
- Plan and manage candidate meet & greets.
- Conduct direct voter contact door-to-door canvassing (with COVID safety precautions) phone banking, textbanking, and volunteer recruitment work weekly, depending on goals.
- Maintaining a media presence.
- Must be able to travel to the district if needed.
Qualifications
- Advance proficiency of VAN and Reach.
- Knowledge of Spoke text, Mailchimp, and Thru talk.
- Two or more cycles of political campaign work, where at least one cycle is of campaign managerial experience.
- Experience working with candidates one-on-one and prioritizing their time.
- Proven record in coalition building, grassroots or field campaign organizing.
- Must have strong written and communication skills.
- Must be familiar with NYC council finance laws.
- Excellent attention to detail and highly organized.
- Time management skills are a must.
- Ability to work quickly and cooperatively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience using Google suite.
- Flexibility to work long hours, evenings and weekends.
- Have a passion for progressive politics, electing more women into office, and building grassroots movements.
- Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
Compensation
Payment will be bi-weekly, commensurate with experience. Pay: $20 - $30 an hour.
