The Democratic Socialists of America is a member-run, socialist organization with more than 280 groups in every state and the District of Columbia engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our immediate goal is to build working-class power against the capitalist class while advancing transformative reforms like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal, supporting a robust labor movement, electing socialists to office, and shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism. DSA is a "big tent," multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democracy and socialism.

 

This position will report to the Operations Director and will provide administrative support for 20+ employee organization, both remote and onsite. 

 

Please note that during this time of COVID-19, all staff work from home. There is a schedule of one person per day who wishes or needs to work in the office. This position will need to work from the office occasionally, following our safety protocols. 

 

  • Manage office supplies, facilities, and utilities (e.g. internet, phones, copier) for in-office and remote employees, including keeping track of inventory and ordering more as needed
  • Maintain records on office equipment and technology used by staff 
  • Process mail and coordinate information for our post office accounts as needed
  • Process checks and record in ActionKit, DonorPerfect, and our fiscal files; and prepare for deposit
  • Provide special events logistical support
  • Support national volunteer committees verifying and following up on volunteers' membership status 
  • Manage data usage agreements & signed documents files
  • Maintain national email google listservs, administrative lists, national website information, and volunteer email inboxes/domains
  • Coordinate all-staff calendars and create, maintain, and send out the weekly staff meeting agendas
  • Support hiring processes by scheduling and notifying candidates of their status under direction from the Operations Director
  • Support the National Political Committee with scheduling, setting up online votes, and publication of minutes
  • Additional duties as needed

 

Requirements

 

  • 2+ years providing high level administrative support.
  • Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and general communication skills.
  • A strong relationship-builder and team player.
  • Self starter that can efficiently manage multiple projects at once, use limited resources effectively, and work with a team.
  • Handles high pressure situations with positive attitude, tact and professionalism.
  • Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of YDSA and DSA.

 

Preferred

  • Experience managing an office with a largely remote staff.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite.
  • Experience with ActionKit and other CRMs.
  • Creativity and sense of humor.

 

Reports to: Operations Director

 

Work Schedule: Full-time. Work hours will fluctuate according to campaign needs and members' availability.

 

Location: New York City, NY 

 

Salary: $42,500-$47,500, non-exempt, depending on experience.

 

Benefits: We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter. 

 

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
