Maine Community Solar Organizer
LOCATION: Remote, prefer based in Maine. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this contract is remote organizing through email, phone and video conferencing.
BACKGROUND: Use your community organizing skills to combat climate change by increasing the amount of solar energy produced in Maine through its new Net Energy Billing Program. Our unique Community Solar program provides residential customers with access to local and renewable energy at a cost lower than they currently pay and helps local nonprofits and associations raise money for their critical work. This project will result in over 40 MW of solar power generated in Maine from at least 7 community solar plants, reducing fossil-fuel energy production while building the Green Energy Economy in Maine.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

- Education: Educate stakeholders about the benefits of community solar: local clean energy that costs less and no sunny roof needed.
- Partnerships: Work with nonprofits and associations to secure a win-win-win partnership that provides donations to the nonprofit for each member who signs up for community solar.
- Community solar advocate training and management.
CONTRACT DURATION, FEE AND LONG TERM GROWTH:
- 4-week contract at $1,000/week ($4,000 contract) with a high chance of a 6-month or longer position based on the success of the initial 4 weeks. Hiring immediately.
- This contract position has strong growth potential for a leadership role in a fast-growing campaign to bring over 40 MW of solar energy to Maine.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Strong familiarity with Maine, especially in the greater Portland, ME area. Bonus if you have personal relationships in Maine and/or with Maine-based nonprofits.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of one year organizing, campaigning or nonprofit outreach experience.
- Interest in solar power advocacy and growing the Green Energy Economy.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Self-starter and entrepreneurial: you can develop and pitch an idea, then execute it with high quality results.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office or Google Apps, Zoom/webinar technology, use of the Internet for research and experience with data collection and the importance of databases.
- Strong problem solver, with strong analytic and strategic planning skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT DETAILS:
- This is a remote job that does not require in-person activities due to COVID-19 restrictions.
- A successful project may require night and weekend work.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
- Contractor will supply their own computer, phone and internet access. Any necessary specialized computer programs will be provided.
