About Vets for the People
This position is part of Working Families Party's special political and electoral base building project, Vets for the People, under the direction of WFP's Director of Peace & Security. The project serves to build a political platform and home for multiracial progressive veterans and their leadership development. The project's core goal is help democratize progressive anti-racist, anti-militarist global and security policy. Vets for the People uplifts progressive vets as party leaders, candidates, and surrogates alongside nonveteran WFP champions. The project aims to base build through special political education and community events, digital organizing, and narrative and culture shifting.

About the Digital Organizer

The Vets for the People Digital Organizer role will support the Vets for the People team in digital strategy, organizing, content creation, and data maintenance. The role will help us successfully create a digital presence and platform that recruits left/progressive veterans and progressive peace and security organizations into the WFP. The Digital Organizer will work with the team to craft narrative strategy and content around divesting from war to invest in safety. Ideally, they will bring their proven record of work in organizing or campaigning to help successfully oversee and implement online email outreach and text broadcasts, social-media growth.

The successful Digital Organizer will:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce content and manage communication calendar for emails and petitions using Action Network, social media, website, SMS and P2P text campaigns
  • Monitor engagement and inboxes across channels in order to respond to supporters, capitalize on opportunities, and build resilient audiences
  • Expand and grow the Vets for the People's follower base on digital platforms, e.g., email, sms, social media, Slack
  • Collaborate with Director of Peace & Security and Vets for the People team to shape the organization's overall digital strategy and integrate it throughout our priorities and campaigns
  • Collaborate with the Director of Peace & Security and Vets for the People team to craft narrative strategy and content around divesting from war to invest in safety
  • Help craft narrative strategy and content around divesting from war to invest in safety
  • Oversee and implement online email outreach and text broadcasts, social-media growth

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 1 cycle or year of experience organizing with volunteers, demonstrated development of volunteer leadership, and leading training.
  • Strong technology skills including proficiency with Action Network, Slack, Text/SMS Broadcast, Social Media, and Data Entry
  • A strong grasp of narrative strategy with race, gender and class and coachable on narrative aspects around veterans/military and war 
  • A strong track record of absorption through digital tactics and growing platforms
  • Creativity with constituency building 
  • Familiarity with electoral and/or issue campaign tactics, messaging
  • Demonstrated drive to be proactive, innovative and experimental in how you organize
  • Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and occasional holidays
  • Demonstrated ability to change gears quickly and nimbly in a campaign environment
  • Belief in leadership development and that growth relies on an individual's ability to own important projects and achieve success for themselves
  • Belief that organizing is about building connections and relationships, and that distributing knowledge and power is key
  • Belief that technology should be in service of organizing, not the other way round 
  • Belief that people collectively planning and working together create better solutions than the individual
  • Must have access to strong wifi and good phone reception
  • Commitment to progressive politics

Preferred (but not required) Skills and Qualifications

  • Veteran or military connected or experience with military/veteran communities OR someone with personal experience with war, occupation, militarism, or connections or background in foreign policy, national security, or anti-war organizing or policy
  • Progressive movement relationships
  • Familiarity working with VAN or other voter file data
  • Experience and comfort using EveryAction for tracking volunteer activity 
  • Experience and knowledge of PostGres databases, SQL queries, and/or Python language 
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software

What Else You Should Know

This position is remote and will work from home. The Digital Organizer does not need to be based in New York. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Once the health crisis has abated, occasional travel to off-site locations to meetings and events is required. The position requires the ability to multitask frequently and to work sometimes irregular days and hours to fulfill the essential functions of the position.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $50,000 and $65,000 and will be adjusted based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. We also offer excellent benefits.
