The 2020 cycle was historic for IMPACT — culminating in the election of Vice President Kamala Harris, a new Senate majority that AAPI voters in Georgia helped deliver, and several Indian American firsts in public offices across the country. As we look to 2022, IMPACT is poised for continued success in electing diverse candidates to public office, and further, serving as a national voice for Indian American and South Asian communities, and as an ally to other communities of color.

While this list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, IMPACT seeks a Political and Programming Director to:
  • Oversee IMPACT's political programming, recruitment and organizing efforts nationwide
  • Serve as the primary liaison and contact for IMPACT's endorsed candidates and campaign staff, as well as the first contact for prospective candidates
  • Build relationships with South Asian elected officials nationwide and maintain IMPACT's internal database of electoral histories and contacts at all levels of government
  • Serve as a bridge between IMPACT and allied organizations for co-sponsored events and activities, as well as for guiding endorsements and investment decisions.
  • Making recommendations to the Executive Director on investments IMPACT should be making in this next political cycle
  • Working under the direction and reporting to the Executive Director, build a robust pipeline of IMPACT candidates, trainees and political contacts to further the mission of the organization
  • Work with IMPACT's communications team to promote IMPACT and IMPACT partners' candidates, projects, and events through social media
  • Support the IMPACT Board of Directors as leaders of the organization, including enfranchising their networks to increase IMPACT's reach across the country
  • Oversee IMPACT's Brown Book and appointments and nominations project supporting diverse candidates in federal, state, and local government
  • Through IMPACT's new strategic plan, work under the direction of the Executive Director to achieve and meet goals and timelines as mandated by the Board of Directors
  • Prepare to manage staff and consultants as the organization continues to grow, including overseeing any hiring efforts made on the political side for IMPACT
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director
Ideal Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated skill and passion for building political power in underrepresented communities
  • 5+ years of campaign and/or political and organizing experience
  • Direct experience managing campaign staff and/or consultants
  • Basic familiarity with both non-federal and federal campaign election laws
  • Proven ability to elect candidates to office, including incumbents and first-time candidates running for office
  • Previous experience coordinating with communications and press operations as part of a campaign
  • Hands-on experience managing campaign budgets, including overseeing funding decisions around GOTV efforts and outreach
  • A desire to grow as a professional through this experience with a collaborative and positive attitude
  • Motivation to join a young organization that is seeking to build influence and political power for South Asian Americans over the coming years ahead
  • When safe, the willingness to travel to meet with candidates and stakeholders across the country
Salary & Benefits: The Political and Programming Director will be employed as a full-time position at IMPACT. The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. Salary and compensation will be based on the candidate's experiences and qualifications. While the selected candidate can work remotely, IMPACT will be opening an office based in Philadelphia beginning in 2021.
