The Maine Senate Democratic Campaign Committee is hiring an Executive Director. This is a senior level position, reporting directly to Senate Democratic leadership, and will oversee all aspects of the 2022 campaign. We are looking for someone who knows Maine and has a deep understanding of the unique characteristics of each senate district. Past campaign and fundraising experiences are must-haves. The job of Executive Director will include all aspects of strategic campaign planning, hiring and managing staff, communications and fundraising.
Qualifications:
The Executive Director will ideally have at least five years of campaign experience and one cycle of campaign management experience. Qualified applicants need to have demonstrated skills in managing multiple staff at various levels of responsibility, managing multiple consultant teams, motivating people and developing and implementing strategic plans. Experience leading a board of directors, or committee, or other decision-making entity is a plus. Strategic planning needs to include mission, campaign benchmarks, and clear objectives in the areas of field, recruitment, and fundraising. Superior project management skills are a must to make sure that campaign strategies and tactics adapt and change with the dynamics throughout the election cycle. The candidate needs superb judgment, political savvy, fundraising prowess, and a work ethic of the highest degree. A strong, working knowledge of Maine and the political landscape is critical.
Staff Management:
The Executive Director will work to establish the roles and responsibilities of the SDCC Team. Must be able to evaluate employee effectiveness and restructure jobs as necessary. Manage core staff to ensure that the day-to-day operations are tracked for the achievement of producing results.
There is an expectation that the Executive Director will recruit highly qualified candidates and campaign staff that are motivated and understand what it takes to win a legislative race. The Executive Director must have the ability to assess a candidate's strengths and weaknesses and assist in the design of highly contested races. The first method of evaluating candidates and campaign staff is developed during training sessions. All of the above project management skills will consist of staying on top of multiple projects, the ability to plan and anticipate obstacles, involve stakeholders and partners and use all resources wisely.
Communications and Outreach:
The Executive Director will have the primary responsibility of leading campaign communications for the SDCC. Develop and manage critical communications with local activists, donors, stakeholders, partners, consultants, allied organizations, key constituencies and know how to develop an effective volunteer/grassroots organization in targeted communities. Must pro-actively seek out and utilize new media and innovative campaign communication tools. Proven writing abilities are a must.
The Executive Director must work to protect and grow the majority through strategic communications.
Financial Leadership:
Multiple budgets will need to be established to reach the successful goal of protecting and growing the majority. The Executive Director is the budget manager of the SDCC and will work on major donor programs, partner giving programs, mid-sized individual donor programs, and online fundraising programs. Ensures compliance with all Maine election laws, including timely campaign finance reporting.
Working Conditions:
The Executive Director reports directly to the Senate Democratic Leadership and a team of Senators dedicated to retaining and growing the majority. This position may require extensive hours and statewide travel. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
