Position Summary
Responsible for implementing PPAO's strategic field plan. This includes recruiting and developing county-specific volunteer/activist bases, running an aggressive field outreach program, identifying and recruiting Leadership & Advocacy Team members, supporting programs and campaigns, and working with the campus interns at local colleges to build a Planned Parenthood Advocates presence. The position is aimed at building the capacity of the women's reproductive health movement across Oregon.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
- Work with Field Director to implement strategic field plan including list pulls, script writing, tracking form oversight, and overall accountability for recruitment goals in the department.
- Build Leadership & Advocacy Teams with a specific focus on volunteer leadership development and fundraising as well as accountability work with local legislators including town halls, lobbying, and attendance at hearings, letter writing, and phoning.
- Significant telephone outreach for volunteer recruitment, coordination and maintenance required in addition to the development of relationships with volunteers and cultivation of leaders.
- Coordinate local visibility and outreach activities including leading tabling and canvassing activities, lobby days, researching appropriate events, staffing events, etc.
- Lead phone banks, activist nights, meetings, and volunteer trainings.
- Effectively manage quarterly Fellowship program.
- Support earned media campaigns such as letters to the editor and publicity events.
- Support organizational programs to build supporter base, such as Health Center Advocacy and campus organizing.
- Significant in-state travel required. Access to personal vehicle is necessary.
- Attend and/or plan and host trainings and statewide meetings/events.
- Develop relationships with allied organizations.
- Performs other duties as needed or directed.
- Must be able to sit, perform simple hand grasping & fine hand manipulation at a computer/telephone work station for up to 8 hours per day.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Position provides support and general supervision of Fellows, volunteers, and volunteer leaders on the Leadership & Advocacy Teams.
Competencies & Essential Skills
Requires leadership and strong people skills, ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working as a community organizer, campaign manager, or in a legislative capacity is helpful. Requires strong commitment to the women's reproductive health movement and a desire to create social change.
