DUTIES:
·         Write, edit, and produce communications pieces, both electronic and print, including direct mail, eblasts, flyers, and brochures in support of organizational initiatives, issue campaigns, and endorsed candidates
·         Create and maintain written and graphic content for organization's website and social media sites including calendar, weekly e-newsletter, stories, photo albums, audio/visual
·         Design layout for print and e-communications, flyers and brochures produced in-house; oversee graphic design of more complex pieces produced by outside vendors
·         Oversee design of a branded look for the organization; advise staff on branding, messaging and communications best practices to ensure brand consistency and professionalism
·         Establish and implement regular communications vehicles and a regular communications schedule for effectively reaching our core constituencies
·         Generate a robust and effective presence on social media, using earned and paid media; stay abreast of best practices in the rapidly changing world of social media
·         Compile and maintain up to date press list
·         Develop relationships with media outlets, reporters and editors; pitch stories related to organizational priorities
·         Develop proactive strategies for promoting a positive image of labor, as well as maintaining a readiness to respond quickly to opportunities that arise; produce an annual communications plan, including a budget and innovative proposals
·         Oversee high level PR consultants who may be hired to promote specific campaigns or priorities
·         Coordinate a Communications Committee (drawn from affiliate professional staff) and play a leadership role in creating a coordinated movement communications strategy
·         Research, draft and edit speeches testimony and talking points for the President in collaboration with other staff
·         Research and fact check issues on which the organization advocates as well as staying abreast of cutting edge issues in the labor movement; monitor local, state and national news and regularly circulate press clips to keep staff well-informed
·         Coach the President in preparation for press interviews; coordinate press conference logistics
·         Produce reports of various analytics available and analyze strengths, weaknesses, and strategic goals for the organization's media strategy
·         Accompany the President to events and meetings as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Demonstrated success in developing and implementing communications strategies or related work experience/training
·         Demonstrated success harnessing new media as an organizing tool
·         Top notch verbal and written communications skills
·         High degree of proficiency with social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, required; basic familiarity with HTML preferred
·         Proficiency with at least one graphic design program and demonstrated graphic design skills
·         Passion for building the labor movement and promoting justice and equality
·         Willingness to sometimes work evenings, weekends, and long hours; ability to work independently while contributing to a strong team spirit
·         A degree in Communications or Marketing a plus
