The Southern Poverty Law Center, a leading civil rights organization located in Montgomery, Alabama, seeks a Senior Digital Media Associate with web development experience to join the Digital Department. 
The Senior Digital Media Associate will contribute to the development of new platforms and features for SPLC sites and campaigns. The associate will also contribute to content development for social, blogs and email.
Reporting to the Director of Digital Media, the Senior Digital Media Associate will join a team of three to help redefine the Southern Poverty Law Center's digital communications. Candidates must be web savvy, creative, and demonstrate good news judgment. A strong passion for advancing the cause of social justice is a must
Primary Job Functions:
  • Develop and update content on primary SPLC sites, blogs and social
  • Develop new platforms, microsites and content strategy for various campaigns
  • Package creatively all SPLC work
  • Drive engagement, build relationships with ally organizations and journalists, and engage supporters
  • Assist in executing digital strategy within SPLC's larger communications strategy
  • Track and report impact of all digital communications
 Technical Requirements
  • Advanced experience with content management systems, Drupal highly desired
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Javascript highly desired
  • Advanced experience with Google Analytics
  • Intermediate video editing skills and Adobe Creative Suite experience a major plus
Qualifications – Education and Related Work Experience:
  • A Bachelors degree - preferably with coursework or equivalent experience in any of these disciplines: digital communications, public relations, nonprofit advocacy, social justice or human rights
  • Professional experience working in a digital/social media capacity
  • A keen understanding of how digital strategies are applied to public relations and engagement building
  • Experience working for a nonprofit, political campaign or social action campaign a plus
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of online engagement and activism
  • Demonstrable knowledge of creation of compelling social media content
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with staff across all organizational programs
  • Positive, energetic, personable, and respectful of others
  • Strong passion for social justice and fostering social change
