Interim Communications Director
The
New American Leaders Project (NALP) seeks an interim Communications
Director to spearhead the organization's external and internal
communications efforts beginning in mid February until June, with a
possible extension. NALP is the only national, nonpartisan organization
working to prepare immigrant communities to run for elected office and
for civic leadership.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with President to develop and implement a communications strategy;
- Write press releases and press advisories for all major NALP programs/events;
- Conduct outreach to media outlets to ensure placement of stories about NALP programs, place editorials letters to the editor and blog posts on behalf of President, surrogates or NALP alumni;
- Maintain press list and ensure it is accurate and up to date;
- Ensure that all printed and web materials are edited and proofed to a high standard;
- Work with NALP team and consultant to ensure that NALP website is current, proofed and appealing;
- Implement social media strategy, including posting on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube;
- Develop overall communications calendar and plan in accordance with NALP goals for the year/quarter/month;
- Develop content, distribute and maintain calendar of e-blasts;
- Supervise interns on communications tasks;
- Ensure that President is prepped for all speaking events, including media and speeches;
- Work with Program Director to implement webinars.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required;
- Minimum 5 years work experience required;
- Professional political campaigning experience preferred;
- Ability to set and complete ambitious goals;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with MS Office and a variety of social media platforms
- Proven ability to operate and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment;
