Clean Water Action is seeking a full-time national Political Director to lead the organization's work to elect pro-environment candidates to federal, state and local offices, and to help hold office holders accountable. With more than a million members in 15 states, Clean Water Action is a national organization working to ensure clean water, prevent health threatening pollution, create environmentally safe jobs and businesses and make democracy work. Priority issues in 2015 include restoring Clean Water Act protections for all the nation's water bodies, preventing contamination of drinking water sources, preventing harm from coal plant waste and addressing threats to public health and water resources from oil and gas drilling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop goals, plans and strategies for elections and accountability efforts. Help state managers develop and implement effective election plans. Help track races of concern and develop plans to most effectively use organizational resources.
· Monitor changes in state and federal laws regarding election activities and reporting; prepare materials and trainings regarding election laws and rules for state managers and ensure that all staff are trained in proper election procedures.
· Help develop and implement training programs on effective campaign strategies for state managers.
· Staff the electoral endorsement process, coordinating the development of the national electoral questionnaire and the review of endorsement requests.
· Represent the organization in meetings with outside individuals and organizations; participate in both c3 and c4 coalitions and tables as appropriate.
· Raise funds to support the organization's electoral activities at both the national and state levels; prepare materials and proposals; meet with donors and funders; manage election and civic engagement budgets.
· Collect legally required records and ensure the timely submission of all required reports.
· Produce model campaign messages and materials and oversee the development of local and state materials.
· Publicize the organization's election work including results to allies, funders and the media. Help coordinate media outreach and activities.
· Work on the ground in selected campaigns to provide direction, observe and assess abilities, gain experience and try new approaches.
· Carry out other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 5+years experience in electoral campaign work in progressively senior roles, managing and planning campaigns. Experience at all types of electoral campaigning, including door to door and phone outreach; mail and electronic communication; earned and paid media.
· Experience raising funds for election activities.
· Experience with c3 voter education activities.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Good judgment, well organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities
· Knowledge of election law and requirements.
· Good at working with people, strong manager, motivator and trainer.
· Knowledge of environmental issues a plus.
