Experienced activist needed to help get our country off of dirty oil. This Clean Cars Advocate will work with our national program team to get more clean cars on the road, increase vehicle fuel efficiency, and block investments in harmful infrastructure like the Keystone XL pipeline and fracking. We can succeed by convincing our leaders to make new investments in fuel-efficient cars and public transportation. The Advocate will be using a variety of campaign tactics to make these goals happen.

Responsibilities Include:

·      Campaign Coordination: Work with our staff and partners to plan and execute campaign tactics. Participate in policy development, strategy discussions, and research and messaging for the campaign.

·      Coalition Building: Cultivate relationships with diverse and powerful allies and expand the constituencies supporting our efforts. Engage partners in campaign tactics, including attending events, participating in press conferences, and promoting our campaign.

·      Grassroots Mobilization: Work with our organizers and advocates to mobilize citizens to take action both online and in-person. Provide compelling and timely information and engagement opportunities to our members and the general public.

·      Advocacy: Present our case for action to decision-makers—including legislators and agency officials. Build relationships with key players at both the state and federal levels. 

·      Media and Visibility: Get the word out far and wide through newspapers, radio, television, social media and public speaking engagements. By elevating the issue of oil dependence in the public debate to educate the public and motivate our supporters. Opportunities for visibility will include speaking at press conferences, writing and issuing press releases, developing talking points, submitting op-eds and letters to the editor, and representing the organization on discussion panels.

·      Fundraising: Raise grant money and cultivate donors to fund campaign work, and give briefings to our citizen outreach staff.

·      Recruitment: Help recruit new staff, new interns and new volunteers to increase our impact and build more power. 

Qualifications:

Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Qualified candidates have strong leadership skills, passion for environmental issues and commitment to citizen-based social change activism. We're looking for goal-driven and results-oriented individuals who have excellent verbal, writing and analytical skills; the ability to speak persuasively in a charged atmosphere; experience building relationships with key environmental and political stakeholders; and enthusiasm for the work.

Salary for this position is commensurate with relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees.  Environment America offers a competitive benefits package.
