The New York State Civic Engagement Table (NYCET)  is a strategic driver of social change and a laboratory for innovative collaborative work.  We support a diverse group of socially responsible organizations committed to creating a better, more just, and democratic world through year-round civic engagement.  NYCET is committed to lasting racial, social, economic, and environmental justice and building an intersectional movement that advances these goals collectively.  Those issue areas include voting rights, quality and affordable health care, economic justice, civil rights, improving public education.   NYCET is committed to movement building and leadership development.  This includes forecasting political possibilities and building creative grassroots campaigns to leverage shared power to create transformational change.  

Job Summary

The New York State Civic Engagement Table seeks a new full-time State Director to begin work in April of 2015.  The  State Director should be a visionary leader committed to transformational, progressive social change in our lifetime.   The coordinator will lead the table, which is made up of member representatives from faith, civil rights, choice, youth, labor, disability, environmental, civic, LGBTQ, women's rights, education, immigration, communities of color, and other organizations and communities. Through effective collaboration with table partners, the coordinator is responsible for developing a coordinated program plan, fundraising to support the plan, innovating and evaluating best practices, engaging new partners to participate, managing staff and contractors, and overseeing the provision of resources and technical assistance for table partner organizations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare grant proposals and reports to current funders. Find new fundraising prospects.  This includes individual donors and institutional donors. Cultivate current and new funder relationships Plan and implement a collaborative work plan for the table in coordination with the leadership team Develop criteria with leadership team for fund allocation to partners                Primary Duties & Responsibilities (Con't) Engage in planning, coordination, and networking at a state and national level Actively participate in the State Voices' network, learning from and engaging with other state tables to bring new ideas and best practices to New York and grow the profile of the Table nationally

Manage and supervise the staff and consultants required to implement the table's plan and meet programmatic goals Create a detailed budget and manage and report table funds Expand the coalition by identifying and meeting with non-profits across the state that work with historically underrepresented people and communities Develop and coordinate trainings for table members, including the development of civic engagement plans and activities Represent NYCET in local, state and national coalitions Facilitate regular table meetings

Desired Qualifications

Experience in fundraising, including building strengthening relationships, cultivating new funding prospects,  making presentations, writing proposals and drafting reports. Experience facilitating group process Experience developing political strategy and leading shared strategy processes Experience managing staff and relationships Demonstrated experience in coalition-building Collaborative nature, able to work with many different personalities Commitment to the goals of the table including civic engagement and economic, racial,  and social justice Strong writing and communication skills Campaign and organizing experience A strongly defined racial justice analysis

A strongly defined sense of how multiple  forms of oppression relate to one another Knowledge of New York's political and policy landscape Experience working with nonprofits Ability to create and manage a large budget Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet organizing, and social media Demonstrated knowledge of 501c3 organizations and their legal abilities Ability to set goals, work independently and meet deadlines Willingness and ability to travel regularly within New York (including by car, with a valid driver's license) and some national travel Proficiency with Spanish or another language spoken by our partner's members (preferred, not required.)

New York State.  Location in New York is flexible, with a strong preference for New York City or Albany.
