Key Areas of Responsibility:

The Advocacy Director leads proactive government relations and activist engagement programs to protect and expand access to reproductive health care and sexual health information in New Jersey. The Director is a senior strategist who leads field, legislative and electoral campaigns to build support for Planned Parenthood's mission, bring people into our movement, and protect our brand. The Director represents Planned Parenthood before the New Jersey Legislature and serves as the organization's primary contact with elected officials in New Jersey as well as coalition partners and other key stakeholders. 

Principle Responsibilities:

This is an ideal opportunity for an entrepreneurial and mission-driven leader with legislative and issue advocacy campaign experience and strong interpersonal skills to drive the strategy behind Planned Parenthood's public policy and community organizing work in New Jersey. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional state-level leader able to both view projects at a macro level while also keeping track of the most granular of details. Must be unflappable, with excellent people skills, in particular partnership and relationship building with both internal and external stakeholders, and impeccable discretion. While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following: 

 

Experience

•  Senior management experience, 5- 7 years, in nonprofit advocacy, political or legislative environments

•  Bachelors in relevant field (public policy, health or women's studies), ideally a Masters 

•  Visible success in securing legislative and advocacy campaign results

•  Hands on Lobbyist experience

•  Effective communicator who has built relationships with various constituencies

•  Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning as well as short-term crisis management

•  Ability to manage program, staff resources and budget judiciously and resourcefully

•  Ability to travel across state
