Job Opening: Canvass Director
Mainers for Accountable Elections is seeking a full-time Canvass Director to join the 2015 ballot campaign. Canvass Directors are responsible for recruiting, training, and managing a team of canvassers who will be at the frontlines of our campaign making direct contact with voters. Canvass Directors will report to the Campaign Field Director, Robert Booth, and will be based in either the 1st or 2nd congressional district.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruit a team of canvassers from within local communities by identifying candidates, interviewing, and making hiring decisions;
- Teach canvassing fundamentals by working with staff in group and individual settings with a particular eye on developing leaders;
- Cultivate a welcoming and motivating atmosphere;
- Lead by example by canvassing in the field as needed to train new and experience staff and meet personal goals.
- Carefully track and report results daily to ensure the canvass meets or exceeds their goals.
Skills and Qualification:
- One to two cycles of campaign experience or paid canvass experience;
- Strong leadership skills and commitment to developing a strong and supportive team culture;
- Experience meeting goals and holding others accountable;
- Candidates must be self-motivated and willing to work extremely long hours, including nights, and weekends, in a fast-paced environment;
- Personal experience with developing leaders and managing paid canvassers;
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure;
- Familiarity with the VAN and other campaign technology;
- Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle.
