Calling on folks in the D/M/V who are 24-35 years old and are passionate about reproductive health, choice, and justice to apply for the Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington Developing Leaders Program (PPMW DLP)!
DLP is a 9-month volunteer and professional development program designed to help participants grow in their understanding of the reproductive health and justice movement while offering opportunities to network with others in this field and grow professionally. http://bit.ly/1RZdhpW
As a participant last year, I had a fantastic experience learning more about reproductive health and justice, so much so that I'm helping to lead this year's program as Co-Chair. Very excited for what we have in store for the program this year, so please apply, apply, apply, and then have your friends apply! Applications are due July 31st, and feel free to message me (jultie@gmail.com) if you have any questions!
Here are the details:
Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington (PPMW) is looking for applicants to join its Developing Leaders Program, a 9-month long, volunteer-run program for individuals 24 to 35 who are passionate about reproductive health, choice, and justice.
This program will serve as an "on-ramp" for individuals to become engaged and active supporters of PPMW. It will provide training, mentoring, and skill-building activities that will result in a lifelong, informed commitment to the movement to ensure that women have complete bodily autonomy and control over their own reproductive decision-making. Program participants will get the chance to be involved with PPMW's advocacy, outreach, fundraising, education, and volunteer work, and PPMW Action Fund's electoral work.
The program year will run from September to May. Program Activities will include:
● Retreat (August 29, 2015) - Participants get to know each other through structured activities and informal discussions as well as kick off the year with orientation to the program at a one weekend day retreat at the end of August.
● Education – Participants learn from volunteer faculty about the basic areas of sexual and reproductive health policy and activism, the biology of reproductive health, contraception and abortion, and clinic operations through a series of presentations at group's monthly meeting.
● Mentoring – Participants will have the opportunity to mentor and be mentored during the course of the year by connecting with PPMW board members and/or PPMW DLP alumni.
● Group projects – Participants will work on a group project that furthers the goals of PPMW's development, public affairs, education, and volunteer services departments.
What will I get?
● Skills and specific knowledge of how you can use your personal strengths to best support Planned Parenthood and the movement.
● In-depth education on the biological, clinical, and political aspects of reproductive health and choice
● The chance to be mentored by current PPMW board members and/or PPMW DLP alumni.
● A certificate of program completion
● Access to a network of other PPMW advocates and supporters
Requirements:
● Applicants must be between the ages of 24 to 35
● Willingness to give or raise $300 minimum gift
● Must attend a one-day retreat and attend 80% of monthly meetings to be held on the second Tuesday of the month (September through May). Additional (non-mandatory) meetings and social activities may also be scheduled throughout the year.
● Preference will be given to applicants not currently working in the reproductive health or reproductive justice fields
Please complete the following (1) APPLICATION and send your (2) RESUME and (3) LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION to katherine.nielson@gmail.com by July 31, 2015.
