Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) – a leading nonpartisan, nonprofit government and politics watchdog organization dedicated to improving our political system – seeks a Communications Assistant to join our creative and fast-paced communications office. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent writing and editing experience and strong attention to detail. The position is a terrific opportunity to engage with a broad range of media outlets to fight corruption in Washington and highlight the need for reform.


Responsibilities:

  • Draft and edit press releases, blog posts, newsletters and email updates;
  • Build and manage targeted press lists;
  • Assist Communications Director in executing CREW's communications plan;
  • Answer incoming requests from members of the press;
  • Manage CREW's social media accounts and monitor social media for breaking news;
  • Work with the Communications Director in developing and pitching story ideas;
  • Monitor news relevant to CREW's mission and keep senior staff informed with pertinent clips; and
  • Update CREW websites with news content.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3+ years of communications experience preferred in nonprofit, governmental, campaign, or comparable setting with demonstrated interest in national politics;
  • Experience with the creation and management of time-sensitive press materials;
  • Demonstrated commitment to producing superior written work marked with excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and juggle multiple priorities; and
  • Experience working collaboratively with coalition groups and diverse teams.

The following are desirable but not required:

  • Knowledge of the news cycle;
  • Experience with graphic design; and
  • Familiarity with government reform issues.
