Public Health Organizer
Maryland PIRG seeks an Organizer to lead our public health campaigns: Healthy Kids, Healthy Maryland and Keep Antibiotics Working. The Organizer will advocate with legislators and the Governor's office, plan media events and media outreach, run grassroots organizing, recruitment, fundraising, and coalition-building to push for solutions that protect public health like reducing exposure to toxic chemicals in consumer products and stopping the misuse of antibiotics on large farms.
Too many of the products we use every day contain chemicals that could harm our health and are linked to chronic diseases like asthma, cancer, developmental disorders, and reproductive issues. Maryland PIRG is pushing companies to phase out toxic chemicals from their supply chains and working with state and federal legislators to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals.
Medical experts, including the World Health Organization, are warning that if we don't stop the overuse of antibiotics, they could stop working, with potentially grave consequences for public health. Maryland PIRG is organizing the public to end the routine use of antibiotics on livestock.
Additionally the Public Health Organizer will need to be ready to represent Maryland PIRG on our entire legislative agenda, which includes consumer protection, reducing the influence of big money in politics, and other issues.

As an Organizer with Maryland PIRG you'll help develop policy solutions and implement a variety of campaign strategies to mobilize the public and influence insiders. The Public Health Organizer is responsible for:
