West Slope Field Manager

Conservation Colorado seeks a West Slope Field Manager who will bring vision, energy, and passion to their work. This person will instruct and inspire organizers, helping them to build skills, develop professionally, and implement campaign strategy. The West Slope Field Manager will also engage in day to day organizing, mobilizing Conservation Colorado members as volunteers and activists. This position will play a critical role in guiding field campaigns to protect key landscapes and wilderness on the west slope.

Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado's environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation‐minded policy makers. We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses and other conservation nonprofits, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the region. This coming year we will be tackling everything from finalizing Colorado's state water plan and implementing the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan, to moving key public lands and wilderness bills that will protect iconic places in Colorado.
Job Responsibilities
The West Slope Field Manager is responsible for the following:
- Provide leadership, train, and supervise a team of 3-4 organizers while holding them accountable to meeting all field organizing goals.
- Work with advocacy staff to implement strategies by assisting west slope organizers to incorporate those strategies in work plans and organizing tactics.
- Work with the Organizing and Political Director to develop organizing team systems and processes.
- Use grassroots organizing skills and a well-developed ladder of engagement to mobilize a base of conservation volunteers and activists.
- Ensure organization is successfully using innovative, cutting-edge field tactics.
- Draft written content for organizing purposes and coordinate with Communications team to ensure that our general messaging is audience appropriate for the West Slope.
- Develop strong relationships with local leaders and coalition partners on the West Slope to advance priorities.
- Connect local communities to conservation campaigns through outreach and education to citizens and local businesses.
- Help with database management, data entry, phone banking projects and other priorities of the organizing team.
- Seek out new voices from communities who are disproportionately impacted by anti-conservation policies.
- Actively participate in achieving other organizational priorities as needed, including fundraising efforts.
Qualifications
We're seeking a strategic thinker & problem solver who is results-focused, highly-driven, possesses outstanding interpersonal communication skills, and is organized and meticulous.
You should possess:
- A passion for protecting Colorado's land, air, water, and people through citizen action.
- A demonstrated ability to maintain grace under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever changing environment.
- Experience organizing racially, ethnically, and/or geographically diverse communities.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently.
- Ability to craft audience specific messaging and organizing tactics.
- Ability to interact and engage easily and naturally with anyone, regardless of their background, knowledge of our issues, or involvement with our organization.
- Professionalism to act as a representative of Conservation Colorado in a myriad of situations and circumstances.
- Ability to navigate difficult conversations with people who don't agree with us or who have competing priorities.
The position requires a willingness to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Includes health/dental benefits, retirement with match, paid time off program and sabbatical program.
