1. HEALTH POLICY ASSOCIATE (Washington, DC)
NCL seeks a motivated candidate for the position of program associate to help carry out its health policy program. He or she will work with the Director of Health Policy as well as the Executive Director of the League. The program associate will represent the National Consumers League as a consumer advocate regarding issues such as safe medication use, quality of health care, and comprehensive health coverage. The associate will also help with the management of NCL's national public education campaign to improve medication adherence, Script Your Future. The League's health policy work focuses on patient and consumer education projects, convening health forums, and general advocacy efforts. Candidates should have a strong commitment to serving the public interest.
Responsibilities:
§ Conduct research on health policy issues
§ Strategize on consumer outreach and drafting materials for consumer education
§ Help coordinate adherence campaign activities
§ Maintain campaign Web sites for public, health care audience, and partners
§ Coordinate social media outreach for campaign and health policy work
§ Collaborate with other consumer and public interest organizations and coalitions, government agencies, health professionals, researchers and industry
§ Author content for NCL Web sites, newsletters, and social media channels
§ Write and/or present comments, testimony, and speeches on various health issues
§ Develop surveys and analyze results for research and education projects
§ Appear before federal and state regulatory and legislative agencies
§ Assist Health Policy Director on other campaign duties and policy work as assigned
§ Work closely with Development Department to support funding initiatives
§ Work closely with Communications Department to plan and execute public-facing communications about the health policy work
§ Represent NCL policies and views to the media
§ Willingness to travel
Qualifications:
§ Bachelor's degree
§ At least 2-3 years experience working on healthcare policy and issues, or advanced degree in public health, health policy, or a related field
§ Knowledge of health care issues and legislation
§ Strong and efficient oral and written communication skills (consumer and technical)
§ Comfortable speaking in public
§ Experience working with national organization partners and state and local stakeholders
§ Broad knowledge of federal and state regulatory and legislative processes
§ Ability to work with multidisciplinary groups
§ Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, both independently and with others
§ Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, proficiency in project management
§ Must be highly comfortable with basic computer software and programs (Mac and PC-based, MS Office Suite) and at ease with learning new systems. Experience working in a content management system (such as Wordpress) highly recommended.

2. GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR (Washington, DC)
The National Consumers League, America's pioneering consumer advocacy organization, is seeking a staff member with a strong commitment to public interest work to serve as Grants Administrator. The League (www.nclnet.org) is a national nonprofit organization that protects and promotes social and economic justice for consumers and workers in the United States and abroad, focusing on fraud prevention and education, food and drug safety, teen-consumer literacy, child labor, and fair labor standards.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Vice President for Strategic Alliances and Development, the Grants Administrator will work with staff and members of the board to provide logistical and administrative support for the raising, processing, and acknowledging of major and planned gifts as well as identifying foundation grants for the organization. This new position at NCL will be integral to carrying out a key organizational goal of diversifying revenue sources.
The Grants Administrator's primary responsibilities will include:
§ Supporting the Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Development with an emphasis on research, writing, and editing
§ Managing grant tracking charts for finance and development departments
§ Maintaining donor database and recordkeeping systems, including hard copy and electronic files, calendars, and recordkeeping spreadsheets
§ Preparing and submitting applications to foundations to meet agreed income target goals.
§ Assisting in the development of budgets and financial reports.
§ Working with staff and board to research and identify prospective individual donors
§ Increasing individual donor and foundation giving and awareness of NCL's work and mission
§ Creating a pipeline of new individual donor prospects
§ Manage grant letters and acknowledgement process
§ Ongoing monitoring of American foundation trends
§ Under direction from the Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Development, assisting with annual fund appeals and email communications with donors
§ Researching and identifying new foundation prospects
§ Undertaking a wide range of unsolicited written and verbal inquiries to prospective funders
Qualifications:
§ Extremely detail-oriented and proven ability to work well under deadline pressure
§ Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and complete work independently
§ Exceptionally strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills
§ Four to six years' experience in development, fundraising, and major gifts and/or foundations
§ Experience with online fundraising campaigns and grassroots advocacy efforts. Familiarity with and interest in social media
§ Familiarity with fundraising database management software; familiarity with DonorPerfect Online a plus
§ Understanding of foundation and individual philanthropy and demonstrated record of achieving results
§ Ability to balance the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders
§ Experience with event planning and/or client services a plus.
§ Have an outgoing personality and a good sense of humor Have ability to interact positively with donors
§ Bachelor's degree
