East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC)
DIRECTOR OF DATA & DEVELOPMENT
Oakland, CA
Full Time
About the Organization
EBAYC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that moveded to Oakland in 1988 to respond to the rapid and growing influx of gang-involved Southeast Asian youth to the local juvenile justice system. EBAYC sought to guide these youth away from gang involvement and court oversight by engaging them and their families in supportive and mutually accountable relationships with our staff. With our home office permanently moved to Oakland in 1997, EBAYC recognized the need to focus our services in the San Antonio neighborhood and changed our focus and strategy from "race" to "place," to serve the diverse low income youth population in the area.
In 2012, EBAYC merged with the Oakland Asian Student Educational Services (OASES) to become one organization. The EBAYC Board of Directors includes 20 members, the majority of whom are youth and parents representing our various programs. We employ 40 full-time staff and over 100 part-time employees, many of whom are EBAYC program alumni and neighborhood residents. We recruit, train, and support over 200 UC Berkeley students each year who serve as volunteer tutors and mentors.
Today, EBAYC seeks to support youth to be safe, smart and socially responsible and serves a racially and culturally diverse membership of nearly 2,000 youth (51% API, 24% Latino, and 21% African American) who reside in the Chinatown, Eastlake and San Antonio neighborhoods of Oakland. Over 80% of our students are low-income and 70% of our parent community has a high school diploma or less education.
