Under the leadership of the Vice President, Communications & Marketing, the Director of Marketing will work on wide-ranging external/internal marketing, cause marketing, public relations, media relations and constituent engagement campaigns.

As the nation's largest dropout prevention organization, we serve nearly 1.5 million students in 2,400 sites.


Key Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following elements required of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

In partnership with the Vice President of Communications help guide and manage the organization's brand identity; help define brand positioning and lead the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns that measurably increase national brand awareness and deepen engagement with key constituents including but not limited to donors, advocates, volunteers, policymakers, partners and school leaders.

In partnership with the Director of Corporate Relations, grow and manage existing cause-marketing partnerships and help develop and steward new partnerships that build the Communities In Schools brand, deepen constituent engagement, and raise unrestricted revenue.

Manage external agencies responsible for paid and pro bono advertising and manage agencies and teams charged with collaborating on the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns.

Work collaboratively with those External Affairs team members responsible for marketing and communications on co-creating and executing marketing and branding campaigns, social, digital and earned media projects, public relations and public engagement initiatives and blog/website/thought leadership content.

Directly supervise the graphic designer associate and outside vendors in the conception, design and distribution of compelling print and digital assets that conform to the organizational brand standards

Oversee design and creation of content for internal/external marketing materials including but not limited to brochures, one-sheets, impact reports and the Communities In Schools annual report.

This position must have the capacity to supervise staff and lead cross-departmental projects.

Minimum travel up to 20% may be required including travel in the domestic United States with possible overnight stay(s).



Essential Competencies of the Successful Candidate


In-depth knowledge of the evolving world of integrated marketing, with an emphasis on social and digital strategies.

Senior-level experience managing a team, agencies, consultants, colleagues and partners.

Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to assess priorities, meet deadlines and manage a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create written and digital content and closely edit and proofread diverse styles of communication.

Ability to express ideas in a compelling, concise and clear manner before individuals and groups.

Proficiency in web-based Content Management Systems and interest in Web/social media trends.

Interest in video production and the production of video and digital content.

High-level of technical skills required: proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Powerpoint & Excel. Working knowledge with Adobe Creative Suite including strength with InDesign.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Demonstrated proficiency in crafting marketing and advertising copy.

Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work well with diverse individuals at all levels, inside and outside the organization with demonstrated ability to display a high level of professionalism.

Proven track record of successfully carrying out various PR functions including media relations, content creation, advocacy campaigns and social media engagement.

Prior experience working seamlessly across both traditional and new media.

Education / Prior Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Communications and minimum of 5-7 years of experience working in marketing/advertising either for an agency, nonprofit or for profit entity.

Exposure to issues surrounding public education, social justice or public advocacy is preferred.
