Part-Time Tour Guide-Museum Director Eugene V. Debs House and Museum


Help keep revolutionary history alive! The Eugene V. Debs Foundation seeks a part- time Tour Guide-Museum Director. Located in Terre Haute, Indiana and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Debs House and Museum is a true gem. It regularly attracts people not only from Indiana but from across the U.S., with occasional visitors from Europe and Asia. The Eugene Debs Foundation's primary mission is to keep Eugene Debs' legacy alive.


The Museum Director is instrumental to this mission. Employed directly by the Foundation, the Tour Guide-Museum Director's primary responsibilities include: opening the Debs House and Museum to visitors twenty hours per week (including Fridays and Saturdays), coordinating a staff of paid students and volunteers to offer tours outside of those twenty hours, fielding telephone calls and voicemail messages, filling merchandise orders, recruiting new members, performing community outreach, preparing monthly reports, and assisting with maintenance of the House. The Director will also assist the Foundation's officers in organizing the Foundation's yearly awards banquet.


The applicant should be knowledgeable about Eugene Debs, labor history, and American history, enjoy interacting with people and giving tours, and preferably hold an advanced degree in an applicable field or comparable experience in a trade, labor, or social justice organization.


Pay for the twenty hour/week position is competitive at $17-$20/hour and based upon qualifications. Holidays that fall within the Director's work schedule are paid.
