Job Description: Major Gifts Officer
Truman Center for National Policy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, trains our members and gives them a venue to generate practical approaches to the challenges and opportunities of today. Truman National Security Project, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, helps shape the public debate, support rising leaders, and fight for concrete policies and ideas. Together, we are a nationwide community of members, forged in the aftermath of 9/11, fighting for America's promise on the battlefield, the campaign trail, and in the halls of government.
The Truman Center and Truman Project seek a Major Gifts Officer to maintain and cultivate relationships with current and prospective high net worth (HNW) individuals, with an emphasis on politically-minded donors. S/he is responsible for identifying prospects, soliciting, upgrading contributions, pledge fulfillment, and donor appreciation. S/he will work closely with staff in the DC office as well as our network of members in 16 chapters across the country on major gifts strategies. The Major Gifts Officer will also plan fundraising trips, arrange one-on-one meetings with individuals, organize fundraising events, and maintain donor communications and the database.
This position will report directly to the Managing Director of Development and work closely with the full Development Department, Political Department, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure consistency in all fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
· Working with the Managing Director of Development to develop and refine the major gifts plan including sources of revenue, anticipated cash flow, and strategies to identify, cultivate, and retain major donors.
· Working with the Managing Director of Development and the Political Director to execute the political fundraising strategy.
· Prospecting and engaging HNW individuals to establish relationships that will result in new donations and renew past contributions.
· Preparing call sheets, execute call time, and staff call time for Senior Leadership Team members as needed.
· Overseeing moves management, reporting, and stewardship activities as related to portfolio of HNW individual donors and prospects.
· Collaborating with development staff to plan cultivation events for HNW individuals, and taking the lead on facilitating said events.
· Maintaining advanced knowledge and understanding of development techniques and fundraising best practices to interact capably with HNW individual donors.
· Overseeing the processing and acknowledgement of gifts from individuals.
Requirements:
· Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
· Minimum five years of experience in development with an emphasis on individuals and with proven success in securing five and six figure level gifts.
· Demonstrated experience in engaging and building relationships with HNW individuals.
· High degree of reading, writing, and verbal skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment while juggling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
· Familiarity with political financial structures and compliance requirements a plus.
· Working knowledge of CRM databases. Salesforce experience a plus.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Ability to work evenings and travel up to 40% of the time.
· Strong commitment to the goals and values of Truman.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision and 401K.
