[jobsthatareLEFT] The Public Interest Network - Online Writer (Boston, MA or Philadelphia, PA)

Overview:

The Creative Team for The Public Interest Network is hiring an Online Writer to
produce online content for U.S. PIRG, Environment America and other
organizations that engage in research, advocacy, grassroots organizing and
litigation and other strategies to win positive changes for our environment and
our society.

The Online Writer will create and run digital campaigns for Public Interest
Network organizations to elevate our program work online and encourage
people to take action and get involved.

The writer's job will be to create the campaigns and content that will connect
with people—intellectually and emotionally—and motivate them to join the
fight for a better world.

In short, we're building a movement, and we want you to be one of its
storytellers.

Responsibilities:

You're the voice of our organizations in the online world. You figure out where
the public is at on an issue, then craft a message that will grab the audience's
attention, and motivate them to take action.

 Craft a compelling message: figure out the best way to talk about our
issues to our members, decision-makers, and the general public and
package it up for online campaigns, as well as the organization's work on
the ground.

 Drive the email program for one or more organizations in The Public
Interest Network, by drafting fundraising emails and action alerts to
build support for our campaigns.

 Manage and maintain the content on our websites.

 Alongside the Network's team of digital campaigners, curate the social
media pages for our organizations.

 Review and approve print materials from our Membership Team,
including newsletters, annual reports and canvass materials, to ensure
adherence to brand guidelines, style and syntax, as well as overall
quality control.

 Attend periodic meetings and trainings.

Qualifications:

 Writing and editing: Must be a clear communicator and able to write to
an audience with a strong command of grammar, logic and narrative.

 Creative: Able to anticipate or define a problem, brainstorm solutions,
propose or decide on a course of action, and follow through.

 Attention to detail: Reviewing and editing content is an important
aspect of the job. Whether it's a fixing a spelling mistake or editing
sentence that's off-message, you need to be vigilant and make sure we're
putting the best possible content out there.

 Tech-savvy: Must be able to learn technical skills quickly. Familiarity or
experience with social media management tools, as well as with Adobe
Creative Suite is a plus.

 Problem solving: Things can go wrong, and fast—so you can't hesitate to
flag mistakes, define problems, and pull people in where needed to
solve a problem and move forward.

 Innovation: Think on your feet and make things better. Have an idea?
Propose it; try it out; make decisions.

 Enthusiasm: This is more than a 9 to 5 job. We deliver what we promise
and take the time to do it right. And we want people who are eager to
take on more so they can expand the scope and impact of their work.

 Experience: We're looking for someone with a year or two of experience
writing or creating other online content.

Location: Boston, Massachusetts or Philadelphia, PA

Pay and benefits:

The target annual compensation for this position is $25,500 in the first year.
Staff in their second year receive a raise which averages $1500. The Public
Interest Network's Creative Team offers a competitive benefits package. We
also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.

To Apply: Complete the online application at http://publicinterestnetwork.org/page/pin/apply.
We'll consider your application, and if we think you're a good fit, we will be in
touch.
