Organizational Description: Advocates for Youth, a DC-based nonprofit organization, partners with youth leaders, adult allies, and youth-serving organizations to advocate for policies and champion programs that recognize young people’s rights to honest sexual health information; accessible, confidential, and affordable sexual health services; and the resources and opportunities necessary to create sexual health equity for all youth. The organization works both in the U.S. and in low- and middle-income countries to champion youth activism and nurtures a pipeline of emerging youth leaders for the progressive movement.
Responsibilities: Advocates is looking for an innovative, high energy and highly experienced development professional to oversee its robust fundraising programs. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the development department to maintain and grow the organization’s multi-million dollar budget and further its capacity to fulfill its mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, implementing, and assessing development strategies, including revenue diversification and growth for the organization; assisting in the cultivation of current and prospective foundation and government donors; managing corporate, and individual donors; designing and implementing a major donor program; working collaboratively with management, board and staff to support long-term strategic planning and fiscal management of the organization; and ensuring integration of organizational priorities within the Development Team.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will have at least ten years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, at least five for organizations with budgets in excess of $6,000,000, and at least three at the senior and/or management level; demonstrated experience having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time (institutional, individual, corporate or government); experience in individual, major donor, foundation, corporate and government fundraising, with deep expertise in at least two areas; excellent communications skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to influence and engage with a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships; strong organizational skills; flexible, collaborative and adaptable work style; and the ability to work both independently and be a team player who will productively engage with others across the organization. High energy and passion for the organization’s mission is a must.
