Job Title: Labor Union Organizer
Location: Seattle, WA
SEIU Local 6 is currently seeking candidates with labor, community, political, campus, faith or issue-based organizing experience to help lead exciting campaigns to organize workers in and around greater King County, Washington.
Our union represents thousands of commercial janitors, security officers, and other property services workers throughout Washington State. Local 6 is committed to helping workers fight for social and economic justice on the job and in the community.
ORGANIZER POSITIONS IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON ARE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY.
SOME KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Outreach to workers and workplace leaders.
· Recruitment and development of workplace leaders and worker committees.
· Work with workplace leaders and committees to educate, motivate, and move workers into action.
· Maintain accurate and detailed information to support building strong worker organizations.
· As needed, gather information to support legal actions to protect workers' rights.
· Perform other work related tasks and responsibilities, as required.
SOME OF THE JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
· Prior experience organizing in labor, community, political or campus settings is preferred.
· Experience organizing non-union workers is a plus.
· Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
· Ability and willingness to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. This is not a 9-5 position.
· Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and database software)
· Self-motivated and able to work effectively within a team structure and individually.
· Ability to multi-task, and prioritize work and needs of the campaign.
· Ability to demonstrate good judgment.
· Driver's license, auto insurance and reliable car that can be used for work purposes on a daily basis.
· Bilingual fluency (English-Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
· Candidates not currently living in Seattle, Washington, will be required to relocate to Seattle if offered a position. Relocation costs are not provided by the SEIU.
