Position Summary

The Elected Leadership team is responsible for inspiring, developing, and supporting our members to effectively pursue elected office as a path to help kids and their communities. The Director, Digital Engagement, Candidate Development will serve on the Elected Leadership team and is responsible for supporting the online efforts of LEE members interested in pursuing elected leadership. This position will support a regional portfolio of candidates. In addition to providing candidates with online support, you will also be the point person on managing a candidate's CRM and website in conjunction with the campaign's staff and Director of Candidate Development (DCD).


The person in this position will have demonstrated online campaigning skills, communications and design experience, an ability to build personal, trust-based relationships with diverse individuals, and feel comfortable working and succeeding in entrepreneurial environments. This position will strategically assist LEE members who choose to pursue elected leadership with their campaigns by providing support in ways including, but not limited to: building a campaign's online presence, building their email list, helping acquire new online donors, establishing a plan for online and social media engagement, working on paid digital strategy with vendors as necessary. This position is also responsible for ensuring that appropriate information is flowing vertically and horizontally to the Director(s) of Candidate Development and to other specialists as needed. This position reports to the Senior Director of Campaign Development.


Responsibilities


Create, implement, and execute LEE digital media strategy for LEE Campaigns and Elected Leadership

  • Monitor and implement current social media trends and best practices to drive meaningful and measurable engagement with donors and voters
  • Create and execute digital campaign plans for LEE candidates that utilize the latest campaign tactics  
  • Work with other LEE team members to bolster a campaign's fundraising, field, and communications strategies in the digital space
  • Work cross departmentally with Director, Candidate Development and Research Director to prioritize requests and think critically about digital needs
  • Serve as point of contact for any digital vendors on digital advertising buys
  • Provide Directors, Candidate Development and candidates support in the form of site visits as requested and working on the ground with top targeted campaigns during GOTV

Candidate and Staff Training

  • Train and empower LEE members, LEE staff and elected leaders in the digital space and on utilizing social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Provide ongoing Nationbuilder support
  • Provide database support and setup for campaigns as needed (setup to include building a campaign's email list and overseeing their online kickoff)

Graphic Design

  • Execute digital design requests to include:
    • Website using LEE Nationbuilder templates
    • Logos
    • Donor prospectuses
    • Email and website graphics
    • Print design projects including newspaper ads and door hangers

Communications

  • Work closely with the Communications Director on disseminating messages via email or social media
  • Draft campaign email solicitations
  • Consistently produce high quality internal/external, strategic, and editorial communications content including customized member engagement messaging and digital and social media outreach materials
  • Use data to drive decisions that will increase effectiveness of email engagement, LEE website, and social media assets
  • Develop and support email marketing strategy consistent with broader digital media goals

Special Projects

  • Support special requests from the offices of the Vice President of Elected Leadership and Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of work experience  
  • Three campaign cycles or relevant experience
  • Understanding of best practices and emerging trends in digital/social media space
  • Ability to continuously innovate to offer up-to-date engagement techniques and strategies
  • Ability to create goal-aligned, metric-driven programming
  • Experience working with CMS and building/administering content in multiple CMS environments; NationBuilder, BSD tools, and/or NGP VAN experience desired
  • Ability to work with multiple candidates and complete multiple tasks
  • Experience with analytics tools, including Google Analytics, as well as internal reporting tools
  • Graphic design and visual branding experience Willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to work as a team and in collaboration with other teams
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS and website administration
  • Understanding of best practices and emerging trends in digital/social media space
  • Ability to continuously innovate to offer up-to-date engagement techniques and strategies
  • Demonstrated results-oriented work ethic
  • Comfortable working with remote teams when necessary
  • Ability to maintain focus on execution during high-stress situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • NationBuilder expert certification
  • Experience coaching others
  • Demonstrated passion for educational policy
  • Previous affiliation with and demonstrated success in a mission-aligned environment
  • Ability to deeply understand a number of new local contexts
