Position Summary

The Elected Leadership team is responsible for inspiring, developing, and supporting our members to effectively pursue elected office as a path to help kids and their communities. The Director, Fundraising, Candidate Development is responsible for supporting the fundraising efforts of LEE members interested in pursuing elected leadership. This position will support a regional portfolio of candidates. In addition to providing candidates with fundraising support, you will also be the point person on managing candidate call time trackers, finance plans and cash flow in conjunction with the campaign's staff and Directors of Candidate Development (DCD).


The ideal candidate will have demonstrated campaign fundraising skills, call-time management experience, an ability to build personal, trust-based relationships with diverse individuals, and feel comfortable working and succeeding in entrepreneurial environments. This position will strategically assist LEE members who choose to pursue elected leadership with their campaigns by providing support in ways including, but not limited to: developing a call time program and tracking system, develop realistic goals and maintain high quality fundraising tracking systems with campaigns, remotely train and staff call time, message development one on one with candidates, and help campaigns expand their lists and prospect new donors. This position reports to the Senior Director of Campaign Development.


Position Location: Flexible (preferred locations: Washington DC, Denver, Los Angeles) 

Travel Requirements: 40%


Responsibilities


High level and strategic fundraising coaching, staffing and management:

  • Coach and preparing candidates and staff on call time
  • Provide on-going, one on one call time staffing of 1.5 hours per week for each candidate, as requested
  • Assist DCDs, campaign staff, and candidates with understanding the basics of call time management, tracking, organization, goal setting, and execution
  • Assist in managing the day to day coordination of scheduling and tracking candidate call time

Create, implement and execute LEE finance plan and fundraising communications for LEE Campaigns and Elected Leadership:

  • Create candidate prospectuses for donors
  • Develop fundraising messages
  • Help draft fundraising communications

Training:

  • Provide trainings internally to LEE staff to help build their understanding of campaign fundraising principles and techniques
  • Train campaign staff on donor research
    Finance plan and cash-flow management:
  • Write and manage finance plans, help to track cash-flow with campaign managers  
  • Go on site visits with DCDs to provide fundraising support, especially as it relates to setting up their fundraising operation and training staff

Special Projects:

  • Identify donor research and list building opportunities, provide campaigns with targeted lists to increase their donor base

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of work experience
  • Four years of campaign experience, preferably as a finance director or equivalent role
  • Proven track record in campaign fundraising and call-time management
  • High level of comfort on the phone with candidates and donorsStrong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with multiple candidates and complete multiple tasks
  • A framework for working within campaign finance lawsPrevious affiliation and demonstrated success in a mission-driven environment
  • Ability to work as a team and in collaboration with other teams
  • Ability to deeply understand a number of new local contexts
  • Ability to maintain focus on execution during high-stress situations
  • Willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings
  • Demonstrated results-oriented work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Demonstrated passion for educational policy
  • Experience coaching others
  • Experience working with remote teams
