JOB DESCRIPTION

 

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Texas League of Conservation Voters, a 501(c)4, and its sister 501(c)3 organization the Texas League of Conservation Voters Educational Fund, seeks to hire a dynamic and experienced Development Director to lead organizational development efforts. TLCV has built a solid reputation as a nonpartisan environmental organization in Texas that advances a forward-thinking conservation agenda at the state Legislature and successfully holds our elected officials accountable.  Texas League of Conservation Voters Educational Fund works to educate the public and involve citizens in the policy-making process.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Development Director is responsible for leading the fundraising efforts of TLCV's 501(c)4 and Political Action Committee, including membership building, major donor cultivation, business support, and event planning. The Development Director is also responsible for TLCVEF's 501(c)3 foundation and major donor fundraising. Along with providing support to other staff and board members for their fundraising work.

 

Direct organization's development planning and evaluation.

§  Work with staff and Board of Directors to implement fundraising strategies.

§  Work with the Board's Finance Committee and Executive Director to create organizational budgets.

§  Evaluate and track fundraising program results, and develop strategies to improve fundraising performance.

§  Be strategic in prospecting and identification of new potential major donors and growing the major donor universe.

 

Coordinate major donor program.

§  Create annual major donor goals and schedule.

§  Maintain regular communication and build organizational relationships with major donors.

§  Research new major donor prospects.

§  Upgrade small donors to major donors.

§  Initiate contact and set up meetings for new and current major donors with Board members and Executive Director.

§  Manage and staff call time for Executive Director and members of the Board.

§  Ensure any and all follow up on all major donor prospects is completed in a strategic and timely manner.

§  Develop and manage the Board Fundraising Committee.

 

Manage foundation fundraising.

§  Work with Executive Director to identify foundation prospects.

§  Prepare grant proposals and timely grant reports.

 

Direct membership/supporters program.

§  Create membership benefits.

§  Implement annual membership plan, which will include:

o   Maintaining and implementing system for renewing current members, which includes mailings, phoning, thank you letters and database record keeping.

o   Maintaining and implementing a system for prospecting potential new members.

 

Oversee annual fundraising event and coordinate business giving.

§  Coordinate fundraising aspects of annual event.

§  Work with board and Executive Director to solicit business sponsorships.

§  Evaluate and implement creative ways to raise money from event.

 

Develop and implement staff and Board involvement in fundraising efforts.

§  Serve as lead staff person to Board's Development Committee.

§  Coordinate and support fundraising events with staff and/or Board members.

§  Coordinate personalized mailings from staff and/or Board members including annual appeals.

§  Attend all Board and staff meetings.

§  Provide other Board and staff fundraising support as needed.

 

Assist with organizational marketing.

§  Create and oversee the online fundraising strategy, which includes writing copy and sending fundraising emails.

§  Coordinate productions and mailing of annual reports.

§  Coordinate production of other marketing materials as needed (i.e. brochures, holiday cards, etc.).

 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

§  Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

§  Demonstrated experience and success in nonprofit fundraising, including major donor development, writing appeals, and foundation proposals.

§  Previous campaign experience preferred, including field, fundraising, or communications.

§  Strong communication skills, including writing and public speaking. 

§  Commitment to the goals and vision of TLCV

§  Familiarity with environmental issues facing Texas

§  Relevant computer and database experience (organization uses NGP-EveryAction, iWave, Excel, and QuickBooks).

§  Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and direct projects and programs.

§  Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and be part of a team working toward a common goal.

§  Event planning skills.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

§  Based in Austin

§  Some travel is necessary.

§  Some evening and weekend work required.

§  Team player: Given the small size of the organization, the Development Director will be expected to fulfill occasional program responsibilities and other duties as needed.

§  Fast-paced and requires juggling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
