Position Description:
The Deputy Director of Institutional Advancement, within the Institutional Advancement team, provides management, leadership and strategic direction to CCC's operational fundraising program. The Deputy Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for helping lead the planning and implementation strategies to raise the yearly operational budget. Working directly with the Director of Institutional Advancement and Director for Brand Strategy and Chief Writer, and the Institutional Advancement Team, s/he is responsible for helping to ensure the long-range financial stability of CCC and the Center for Community Change Action, a 501(c)(4) organization.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Perform project management duties for the implementation of a diversified fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, major donor development and grant portfolio management.
- Manages strategic fundraising planning efforts for the operating budget of CCC/A;
- Secures funds for the core operating budget, and national programs;
- Works closely with the Institutional Advancement team and program staff to manage the grant calendar and program officer communications as needed;
- Provides leadership and assistance on special projects, including donor communications, end of year fundraising appeal, and the yearly Champions event;
- Assists in the strategic planning and implementation of a year-long series of events and initiatives in 2018 to mark CCC's 50th anniversary;
- Supervises the Institutional Advancement staff responsible for maintaining the tracking and reporting of revenue;
- Provides the Director of Institutional Advancement, Director for Brand Strategy and Chief Writer, President, Managing Director, senior program staff and the Board of Directors with the analyses, systems, and support they need to participate effectively in fundraising and stewardship of funder relationships.
- Works closely with the Director of Institutional Advancement and Director for Brand Strategy and Chief Writer to build and maintain relationships with foundations and major donors.
- Works closely with program staff to assist with the development of annual and program planning, budgets and financial reports.
Core Responsibilities:
- With the support of the Director of Institutional Advancement, Director for Brand Strategy and Chief Writer, President, Managing Director and senior staff members, design and provide project management and oversight to fundraising strategies to support core operating expenses, national programs, and special projects. This includes foundations and individuals.
- Supervise and support aspects of the IA staff's activities, donor stewardship and cultivation, prospect research, and the management of tracking and database systems including the Raiser's Edge database.
- Assist in oversight of work plans for two to three direct reports, (including Database Manager, Institutional Advancement Coordinator).
- Oversee the individual donor and foundation prospect pipeline and continued cultivation of prospects using the Moves Management tool within Raiser's Edge.
- Manage reporting on the IA department's monthly financials, e.g. revenues and expenditures.
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience managing, growing, and inspiring teams.
- Proven track record of fundraising success, including donor and foundation cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with excellent follow-up and follow-through skills.
- Understanding of CCC's field operations and partner organizations.
- Proven management ability in systems oversight.
- Experience in and passion for social justice and progressive movement building.
- Knowledge of political and electoral fundraising and/or 501(c)(4) fundraising approaches.
- Highly professional with the sophistication, independence, integrity, and work ethic to represent CCC in a variety of situations and communities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, develop strong relationships, and stay connected.
- Comfortable working with and engaging boards, high-level donors, and prospects.
- A problem solver; tenacious, and proactive with the ability to get things done.
- Organized and detail-oriented; ability to set, manage, and deliver on multiple priorities.
- A team player and manager with a track record of building cooperation among all staff members.
- Determined and decisive, exhibiting sound judgment and grace under pressure.
- Innovative and creative with a fresh perspective, as well as the ability to champion new ideas thoughtfully and thoroughly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Is comfortable working in a fluid, multiple‐stakeholder environment.
This position reports to: Director of Institutional Advancement
This is a management position.
Travel Requirements: 1-2 days a month
Salary & benefits: $85,000 to $95,000 annual salary. CCC offers a competitive salary based on qualifications and an excellent benefits package, which includes four weeks of vacation; paid leave between December 24 and January 1; 3% employer contribution to 401k plan at time of hire and an additional 5% at six months of employment (8% employer contribution); and a choice of health insurance plans.
