The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is seeking a Digital Communications Manager to lead digital strategy for its Department of Communications. The Digital Communications Manager will direct web and social media strategy for the authority while managing a small team. This position reports directly to the Chief Communications Officer and will work closely with the press and editorial teams to amplify and complement messaging.

This position requires: interaction with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality; demonstrated ability to work effectively and meet deadlines in high-pressure situations; and good judgment. The ideal candidate is an evangelist on the use of the latest social media tools who is able to train and inspire staff at all levels of the organization to integrate digital media into the various workflows. The candidate should bring a positive "can-do" attitude; be flexible; have attention to detail; have strong decision-making ability; and can work independently with little supervision.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
  1. Supervise staff in the daily management of NYCHA's social media and web presence.
  2. Manage and ensure timely delivery of department projects.
  3. Help develop marketing campaign strategies with senior staff.
  4. Maintain statistics on social media usage and provide regular reports.
  5. Keep current on emerging digital trends and potential for effective application at NYCHA.
  6. Oversee email marketing strategy and online advertising strategy for the NYCHA Journal.
  7. Oversee video production and content strategy that highlights Authority initiatives on social media.
  8. Coordinate with program areas and other Communications staff on a daily and weekly basis to update content in print materials and on the website.
  9. Work with internal stakeholders to draft and edit content on the NYCHA's web site.
  10. Periodically edit graphics using Adobe Creative Suite.
  11. Serve as the professional expert on matters of digital communications both internally and representing the organization externally; serve as the Agency Liaison to the Mayor's Office of Digital Strategy.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 credits in English, journalism or public relations, plus five (5) years of full-time paid experience in public relations, journalism or advertising, including two (2) years in an administrative, supervisory or consultative capacity; or
  2. A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate study in English, journalism, or public relations may be substituted for up to one year of required experience. However, all candidates must have at least two (2) years of administrative, supervisory, or consultative experience in public relations, journalism or advertising.
Education and Experience Preferred:
  1. Master's degree or relevant professional experience in public relations, journalism, advertising or a related field.
  2. Experience producing marketing campaigns, especially around developing visual and graphic collateral for various platforms (social media, web, and print).
Preferred Skills
  1. Ability to synthesize and report data using Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  2. Graphic design and layout skills using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
  3. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (no hard coding required).
  4. Exceptional editing and writing skills.
  5. Demonstrated strong collaborative and project management planning skills with ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, as well as experience managing teams.
