The Virginia House Democratic Caucus is seeking communications interns for the 2018 legislative session (which runs from January until March). We are based in Richmond.
Communications interns will assist the communications director with executing an aggressive communications program that advances our positive Democratic agenda while holding Republicans accountable for their divisive and discriminatory agenda.
Responsibilities of interns include, but are not limited to:
· Expanding and updating press lists
· Creating content for social media
· Drafting press releases
· Staffing press conferences
· Pitching reporters
· Compiling press clips
Interns should have strong work ethic, strong eye for detail, and strong writing skills. The ideal candidate is a scrappy problem-solver with hustle and a sense of humor. Knowledge of AP style is a plus.
Interns with graphic design and video-editing skills are strongly encouraged to apply, as are women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ community. If you have graphic design or video editing skills, please include samples of your work with your application.
A stipend is available for interns who work at least 20 hours per week. We will also work with your college if you would like to receive academic credit for your internship. Although there is no guarantee of employment following the internship, we have helped our 2017 interns secure paid employment with our caucus, campaigns, and offices of other elected officials.
