Emerge America is a national organization committed to changing the face of power, politics, and leadership in this country by recruiting, training, and providing a powerful network for Democratic women running for public office.
Emerge New York is looking for energetic, strategic-minded, hard-working interns to join our team. As an intern, you will support the Executive Director, as well as the Emerge New York board members, in advancing Emerge New York's mission.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-pace, start-up environment and is enthusiastic about learning and growing. She/he must be able to prioritize and manage their time while handling multiple projects simultaneously without sacrificing attention to details. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other interns to promote a respectful and inclusive environment that emphasizes cooperation and teamwork with a minimum of ego. In addition, she/he must be respectful of the perspectives of others and possess sound judgment. The perfect candidate is a fast learner who possesses excellent verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills, and has a strong interest in electing women to office.
Candidates with experience interning in the office of an elected official and/or on a political campaign and/or a nonprofit based in New York State are preferred.
Duties:
Create a database of New York State political research and targeted outreach
Help plan Emerge New York events, including Emerge New York fundraisers and trainings
Assist with direct outreach to Emerge New York partner organizations
Assist the Executive Director with creating internal organization systems to streamline processes
Assist with Emerge New York fundraising, including background research and identifying potential targets
Monitor political events across New York State for potential engagement opportunities
Participate in brainstorm sessions and help produce innovative ideas
Participate in meetings and conference calls (in person and/or remotely)
Positively represent the organization in the community and online
Qualifications:
Must-Haves
Interest in civic engagement, politics, public policy or community development
Strong research and writing skills
Commitment to electing women to office
Commitment to the Democratic Party, it's values, and candidates
Excellent time-management skills
Strong writing abilities and impeccable attention to detail
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
Nice-to-Haves
Knowledge of New York State government and politics
Fundraising experience, including experience with NGP VAN and online contribution databases
Experience with outreach to community organizations, both in-person and via e-mail and phone
Experience creating online ads and targeting audiences/influencers online
Desired term: June-August
Compensation: $250 stipend a month
