Development Coordinator


The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) Washington, DC office seeks a talented, enthusiastic and versatile Development Coordinator, who will work closely with the Development and Communication teams.

Background

NHeLP protects and advances the health rights of low income and underserved individuals. NHeLP advocates, educates and litigates at the federal and state levels. Our offices (in Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Carrboro, North Carolina) manage a broad array of national, state, and local advocacy efforts, ranging from complex analyses of federal and state laws, policy advocacy, litigation, continuing legal education, and individual technical support. We work with lawyers and advocates, community-based entities, federal and state policymakers, health care providers, and clients to address the needs of underserved people.


Job Summary
NHeLP is turning 50 this year! We are planning a number of exciting visibility-raising activities and events. We are seeking an experienced and talented development professional with strong organizational skills who will help lead our development plans for the anniversary year and stay on to implement long term development goals. A commitment to health care and civil rights is a plus. The position requires exceptional attention to detail. The candidate must be a capable self-starter who works well as an individual and in a team.

 

Primary responsibilities will include managing our development efforts, projects and partners, planning and implementing development and fundraising activities. This will include preparing and managing a development calendar to establish timelines and ensure that campaigns adhere to deadlines. This position involves directly growing, stewarding and soliciting donors and prospects.

 

A portion of this position also involves event development and planning, with some travel expected. You will work with senior staff, board members, host committees and event consultants to set goals and implement strategies for the 50th Anniversary events with respect to invitees, programming, and sponsorships. Some of the work will involve supporting and managing logistics to engage event invitees.


This position reports to the Development Manager and works closely with the Development Team and the Executive Director on a daily basis.


This position is based out of the Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities

·         Execute 50th Anniversary events;

·         Connect with and engage host committees and event invitees to implement development

strategies for the 50th Anniversary events;

·         Manage donor engagement and tracking;

·         Travel, as necessary, depending on needs; and

·         Other duties as required or assigned.

 

Essential Qualifications and skills

·         Bachelors degree or commensurate experience;

·         At least 4 years of prior development experience;

·         Event planning skills;

·         Ability to set, manage, and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously, with strong project management skills;

·         Excellent interpersonal skills both in-person and by phone required;

·         Social media experience and proficiency; and

·         Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications and Skills

·         Experience in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

·         Familiarity with health care and civil rights issues.
