Waxman Strategies is accepting applications for our 2019 Summer Environment Internship Program. We are seeking talented, driven candidates who are passionate about environmental issues to support our nimble and mighty campaigns and communications teams.
Who We Are:
Waxman Strategies is a progressive-minded public affairs firm led by former Congressman Henry Waxman, who President Obama called "one of the most accomplished legislators of his or any era." Now out of Congress, Henry heads Waxman's all-star team, using advocacy, communications and campaigns to help shape policies, advance causes, and build movements.
We primarily work in the areas of environment, health care, and telecommunications. A sampling of clients includes the Arcus Foundation, National Wildlife Federation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Rainforest Foundation Norway, the National Association of Community Health Centers, Planned Parenthood, and FoodShot.
Waxman is supporting the work of the non-profit campaign Mighty Earth. Mighty Earth is a global environmental organization that works to make a lasting difference for the planet and its people, with a focus on forests, sustainable agriculture and climate change. A significant emphasis of Mighty's work is breaking the link between agriculture and deforestation in the tropics. Mighty Earth has achieved some of the most important breakthroughs in persuading the private sector to reduce deforestation throughout their global supply chains, including strict No Deforestation, No Exploitation policies from the world's largest agribusinesses. We also recently helped persuade all major chocolate and cocoa companies to pledge to end deforestation and restore forests.
What We Need:
We are looking for candidates who can conduct research, carry out communications activities, and write persuasively. The ideal candidate will possess a balance of leadership skills, technical aptitude and communications talent, combined with creativity, energy and dedication. They will be a self-starter, who can take initiative and work both autonomously and shoulder-to-shoulder with our team on client-focused responsibilities. Candidates with a passion for environmental issues and an interest in politics are preferred.
Interns will work with Waxman Strategies' environmental practice to support Mighty Earth's global campaigns.
