Position: Community Organizer
Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Temporary
Location: Malibu, CA
Position Summary: The role of the organizer will be to engage with local residents around housing concerns in the community.
Areas of Responsibility
- Provide for the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of local community members for the purpose of an issue advocacy campaign;
- Develop progress reports & analysis on activist capacity;
- Work in close collaboration with multiple levels of staff and activists to develop goals and execute plans for participation in all areas of the program;
- Prepare and/or support the creation of activist's education materials that support capacity building;
- Plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment requiring rapid adjustment to changing priorities and strategies;
- Contact residents and community members at home, by phone, and using digital organizing tools;
- Execute the campaign's vision;
- Complete benchmarks on-time;
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Superior oral and written communication skills;
- Minimum of 6 months' experience in planning and implementing strategic, legislative, electoral, or community support campaigns with a labor union, state or local agency or association, non-profit community organization or progressive elected official;
- Ability to develop and implement a field plan measuring community engagement;
- Proven presentation and training skills;
- Ability to analyze complex interpersonal and inter-organizational relationships;
- Ability to travel and willing to work long hours and weekends, as needed;
- Maintain an operational vehicle and driver's license;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, build strong working relationships and hold others accountable;
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to creating a positive work environment that encourages personal responsibility, initiative and innovation;
- Self-motivated, great attitude and strong team player;
- Strong sense of professionalism and integrity;
- Proven ability to work with diverse group of people, from local activists to professional organizers to elected officials to other community and issue stakeholders;
- Thorough knowledge of MS Office programs and Google Docs
- Basic knowledge of Online Campaign Tools (PDI) and other political databases helpful.
Preferred applicants are currently based in Southern California.
