Inequality Media seeks a new Social Media Manager to write and manage digital content and strategies across multiple platforms to help maintain and grow our audience. This is a full-time position in Berkeley. Application deadline is July 31, 2019. 

ABOUT INEQUALITY MEDIA
Inequality Media (IM) educates and engages the public about inequality and imbalance of power through the use of digital media. A Berkeley-based non-profit with a core staff of six, IM reaches millions of people each week with clear, compelling videos and broadcasts about what's happening to our democracy, our culture, and our economy – and what people can do to put America on a path toward a fairer and more just society. Co-founded by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, Inequality Media has produced over 250 videos -- plus 260 live broadcasts -- which have been viewed over 450 million times. And we now have over 4.8 million followers from every state in the nation. 

ABOUT THE POSITION
Inequality Media is looking for a smart, seasoned, digital-savvy writer who understands what it takes to create compelling copy. The Social Media Manager will be responsible for writing and managing digital content and strategies across multiple platforms to help grow our audience and engage with our existing followers. 

We're looking for a candidate with a passion for -- and track record in -- digital media and progressive politics who will:
  • Write and edit a range of digital copy, including video scripts
  • Maintain our social media accounts, posting fresh and timely content about major news developments that tie into IM's mission and overall brand
  • Promote videos (our core product) across all platforms in a creative and engaging manner that encourages audience growth and engagement
  • Utilize paid social marketing (e.g., via Facebook Ads Manager) to promote content including fundraiser videos
  • Manage and grow our email list, drafting campaign content, including related emails, social media posts, and donation page copy
  • Execute A/B testing plans to optimize language/messaging (for posts and emails) and inspire more people to deepen their engagement with our content
  • Supervise and work collaboratively with IM's Digital Engagement Associate
  • Work collaboratively with our go-to digital marketing agency to test content 
  • Work collaboratively with video production team, including the Director of Video and Lead Editor, to help determine video topics
  • Work collaboratively with digital partners such as NowThis News and MoveOn to coordinate video topic selection and distribution
  • Monitor and track IM's social media activity, including the distribution of videos
  • Report regularly on analytics, including our performance, including which messages work with which audiences; make recommendations to the Director of Video accordingly
  • Stay up to date on current events, especially those that reinforce IM's brand and amplify our core messaging
  • Support Executive Director with pitches, reports, and meetings with donors related to the organization's digital programming and testing initiatives, as needed
  • Coordinate with news outlets, as needed

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent writer with three to five years social media experience in politics and/or the non-profit sector
  • Strong knowledge of social media and the digital media industry, including as it relates to nonprofits and political organizations
  • Track record of success on all major social platforms reflecting a keen eye for both generating and identifying compelling, highly shareable content
  • The ability to distill data-backed insights into actionable, right-sized recommendations
  • Strong interest in political economics and compelling civic education
  • The ability to conceptually and creatively process complex concepts including quantitative data
  • The ability to pitch new formats and campaigns for our online programming
  • A solid understanding of progressive values and policies, including as they relate to the news cycle
  • The ability to meet strict deadlines
