Position Summary:

The Vice President, Community Organizing sets vision and direction for LEE's community organizing platform, which includes trainings, online trainings, digital support and engagement, organizing technology and more.  The Vice President will lead the 8 person Organizing Leadership (OL) team, including building a diverse team, and developing and managing the team to ambitious results. Through the Organizing Leadership team, the Vice President will build on the current platform to enable stronger organizing impact in the short-term, and more impact as LEE expands over the long-term.  Rooted in leadership development best practices, the OL team will create online and in-person (blended) learning opportunities to enable effective volunteer community organizers across the country to achieve tangible changes in education policy that better serve students.

Position Location: Flexible

Travel Requirements: 50%

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management (60%)

  • Set vision and direction for the Organizing Leadership team and for LEE's Collective Action work across the country
  • Manage a diverse team of 8 to meet and exceed goals
  • Manage budget for OL team and ensure fiscal responsibility for work on the team
  • Evaluate staff member performance and develop differentiated professional development plans as well as lead the team's hiring, culture building, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and team building efforts
  • Work with National Impact senior leaders and across LEE teams to ensure staff in regions are developing the organizing skills, knowledge and mindsets of LEE members and working towards increased member impact for kids
  • As a member of the organization-wide Leadership Team and member of the National Impact Leadership Team, collaborate with other Vice Presidents across the organization to develop various, meaningful ways to increase member engagement, recruitment results, and provide optimal support to members interested in organizing leadership
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to leverage programs and assets to reinforce support for members

Organizing Platform Development  (40%)

  • Create and execute the Organizing Leadership strategy to ensure organizing platform supports (trainings, online trainings, blended learning, digital support and engagement, organizing technology and more) grow and strengthen LEE members and enable greater organizing success across the country
  • Oversee the creation of online and in-person (blended) learning opportunities
  • Establish supports for volunteer organizers in regions with varying time commitments
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 years of relevant professional experience including organizing and management
  • Experience with organizing that includes base-building, leadership development and community-set policy platforms
  • Extensive experience building, managing and growing a highly effective team
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative mindset; Demonstrated experience leading growth and scale of programs
  • Excellent managerial, interpersonal and networking skills, as well as ability to establish and maintain professional relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct landscape analysis and strategy
  • Proven ability to operate and thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE's mission and theory of change
  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree
  • 6+ years of managing teams to exceed goals
  • Leading and managing a geographically dispersed and/or start-up team
