Associate: Political and Communications

Salary Range: $30,000 - $40,000
Ampersand Strategies is an award-winning mail, media and digital firm with additional expertise in strategy, speechwriting, and communications. Our clients include candidates and caucuses, party organizations, labor unions, universities and other non-profits. We aim to be one of the most creative firms in the business, and we are seeking an associate to help our company grow.
The Associate will work closely with the firm's founder and president, as well as with our clients. The right candidate will help create a variety of deliverables, including speeches and op-eds; political mail; TV, Radio and Digital ads; and newsletters and emails. They'll also coordinate photo and video shoots, manage client projects, and help with business development, research, and…because we're a small shop…probably some light admin as well. If we do it, we expect you to do it, too…but we'll never ask you to do anything we wouldn't do ourselves.
The ideal candidate for this position has a growth-focused mindset and is excited to help build something great. You will key to building on our success and taking us to the next level: developing policies and procedures that will help us take on more exciting work, helping us identify our ideal clients, and making sure we continue to deliver some of the most creative and innovative work in our industry.
You are self-motivated, attentive to detail, and able to manage multiple diverse projects without letting anything fall through the cracks. You are the mighty oak standing tall while the wind rips past — swaying, but never breaking. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, can handle the unexpected, but know when to ask for help and when to manage up. Most of all, people like having you around, and you like bouncing ideas off of co-workers as well.
You'll have to be a little bit comfortable with ambiguity as we learn what systems and procedures we'll need to develop while our client base and firm continue to expand, but you'll be a key part of eliminating that ambiguity as we build for the future.
Our environment is casual, but professional. As long as the work gets done (on time) and the clients are happy, we're not going to micromanage you.

Requirements:
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• At least one cycle of campaign experience
• Comfort with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Attention to detail. We can't underscore this enough
• Healthy respect for deadlines
• Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize on your own based on real-life conditions
• A commitment to something bigger than yourself. We're trying to change the world here!
Bonus Skills (We can train you on all of these):
• Comfort with the VAN/L2/Targetsmart Data, pulling lists, etc.
• Fearlessness on the phones
• Facebook ad targeting and tracking
• Graphic design or web development
