[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Regional Organizer; Lyft NY

Lyft is building a team organizers to support a New York public engagement campaign centered around the state's 2020 legislative session. We're looking to hire experienced organizers who want to improve the gig economy by increasing pay transparency, predictability, and stability for workers, while also preserving the flexibility new technologies provide.

This team will work to engage and activate rideshare vehicle drivers (as well as riders and other members of the public) in New York, around some of today's most important policy issues defining the future of work. Organizers will work with a community of drivers helping them engage in this important political dialogue and making sure their voices are heard. Organizers will spend the bulk of their time getting to know the New York rideshare community and mobilizing members of that community in key districts and at pivotal moments in the legislative process.

If you believe, like we do, that the future of work should include supporting an innovative and flexible economy in New York, we want to hear from you.
Organizers will be based in either New York City, Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley, or Buffalo/Western New York. They will need their own housing, car, cell phone, and computer. The job is scheduled to start in early October and end in early February, with the possibility that it may extend beyond that time.

The local Organizer will:

    • Identify and meet with drivers to understand their views and circumstances
    • Train drivers on how to tell their personal stories in person and in writing
    • Find opportunities to meet and talk with key community stakeholders
    • Answer questions about policy stances
    • Establish relationships with local residents and community leaders
    • Plan community events (town-halls, appreciation events, legislative office visit, letter writing campaigns) to engage and educate drivers and others
    • Mobilize supporters and activists to show their support during key legislative moments
    • Plan your activities with, and report your activities to the Campaign Manager

You might be a good fit if you:

    • Believe rideshare companies provide a critical economic and environmental advantage to New York
    • Have experience talking about statewide policy - at school, at work, or as a hobby
    • Have experience organizing in New York
    • Are comfortable speaking to a group, or one on one, about the urgency of a campaign and encouraging people to get involved
    • Don't mind driving a couple of hours between towns to get the job done
    • Know how to quickly identify the influential voices in a community and then work to build trust and inspire people to action
    • Are at ease just showing up to a meeting or event and building relationships
    • Are as comfortable talking to the local legislatures, volunteers or business leaders
    • Are a problem solver - you spot the challenge, come up with multiple ways to tackle it, and know how to leverage your team to solve it
    • Are a little fearless - you're comfortable asking people to talk on camera or show up at a legislator's office
    • Are comfortable creating engaging social media content on a weekly basis
