Senior Visual Arts Manager
The Senior Visual Arts Manager is the developer and keeper of FCNL's brand and artistic vision as a Quaker organization using graphics, photographs, videos, fonts, and other design elements. The manager designs and oversees the production of all FCNL's visual products, including event collaterals, ads, the monthly newsletter, and the annual report. The Senior Visual Arts Manager reports to the Associate Executive Secretary for Communications.
The Organization
FCNL works for social and economic justice, peace, stewardship of the environment, and good government. Since 1943, the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) has brought Quaker values to bear on national policy through congressional testimony, Capitol Hill visits, grassroots lobbying and long-term campaigns. We accomplish this work through focused legislative campaigns, educational activities, publications, email and social media and a robust web site, among other tools. FCNL witnesses from a basis of spiritual and ethical purpose and seeks to change government policy and practice for the better.
In the last decade, tens of thousands of new people have been drawn to join the FCNL network to learn more about federal policy issues, lobby their elected representatives, and help to rebuild our democratic system. Today, our nationwide network of some 60,000 includes people from many different faiths and backgrounds. Headquartered on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, FCNL is governed by a General Committee of 190 Quakers from across the country and employs a staff of approximately 60.
Key Priorities and Responsibilities
- Design and produce all of FCNL's publications, whether print or digital. This includes overseeing production work from final text to layout and printing. It also includes liaising with printers, mail houses, and other vendors.

- Curate and provide visuals for FCNL's social media (Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and other digital platforms. This includes ensuring that all FCNL-related social media sites conform with FCNL's brand standards and are functionally coordinated with FCNL's official channels.
- Hire and supervise freelancers for FCNL. This includes photographers, videographers, editors, and graphic designers. The Senior Visual Arts Manager ensures that freelance work is completed on time and on budget. The manager also ensures that the work of freelancers is consistent with FCNL's visual and editorial standards.
- Render complex policy issues into simple and shareable visual formats. This includes graphics and memes that can be used in FCNL's website and social media platforms.
- Develop and execute visuals for all FCNL events -- from marketing materials to signage. Create event social media strategy and implementation plan.
- Brainstorm and develop visual solutions and stories to propel FCNL's work.
- Manage the entire design process from brainstorming to final product. This includes leading collaboration with coworkers across departments and incorporating stakeholder feedback.
- Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Associate Executive Secretary for Communications.
