Chief of Staff for Maryland State Senator (Annapolis, MD)

Maryland State Senator Jim Rosapepe (D, College Park) is hiring a Chief of Staff, a full time, year round job to start in early 2020. One of the most progressive members of the legislature, he is Chair of the Democratic Caucus, member of the Budget and Tax Committee, and former US Ambassador to Romania and member of USM Board of Regents.

Primary job responsibilities include:
  • Be a strategic partner to the Senator on legislative priorities, community outreach, messaging, scheduling, social media, and more
  • Lead constituent outreach and casework services
  • Coordinating legislative work with bill drafters and research staff
  • Coordinate legislative testimony, press releases, newsletters, and constituent communications
  • Proofread and edit other staffers' writing
  • Manage office staff, including session interns
  • Oversee correspondence and scheduling
  • Monitor issues specific to the Senator's district

Qualifications:
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills
  • A strong work ethic and good organizational skills
  • Work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficient at Excel, Word, & Google Docs
  • Experience with the legislative process
  • Prioritize tasks and stay organized while handling multiple projects with excellent attention to detail

Experience:
  • Experience in both legislative office and politics is preferred but not required
