Job description

Fuse Washington is hiring a Political Organizer focused on Western WA to build power through teams of community leaders across the region.  They will organize teams to interview local candidates, engage communities in advocacy and electoral campaigns, and hold elected officials accountable. In addition, this person will develop and implement a suite of training and technology-based tools focused on and leading up to the 2020 elections and GOTV efforts. This person will work independently and travel often throughout the state as well as work as part of our dynamic organizing team. This is a full-time, salaried position based in the Seattle office with an expectation of frequent remote work. We are open to candidates based in Pierce County.

 

Key areas of responsibility:

     Distributed Organizing - Working with leaders in key communities throughout Western Washington to build and develop teams consisting of community leaders and engaged activists. These leaders, both in formal and informal roles in the community and recruited by the organizer, will interview and elect progressive leaders in their community and help win on the most important issues at the state and local level. 

     Leadership Development - The organizer will work to develop these leaders through skills trainings, develop support materials, and coaching.

     Working with partner organizations- Build relationships with key organizations and leaders in a set of target locations and engage in coalition work as needed.

     Training - Creating and implementing a training program for community leaders including holding regular calls and webinars to deepen skills

     Building systems - Creating internal and external systems for candidate interview and recommendation processes

     Developing voter contact programs designed to scale including texting, phonebanking, and utilizing other relational organizing tools

     Adding capacity to ongoing campaigns including, but not limited to working to fix our upside down tax code, fighting climate change, and advocating for Racial Justice

 

Required Qualifications - Work, volunteer, academic, and life experience are all acceptable

     At least two years of organizing experience with a nonprofit or political campaign

     Strong relationship-building skills

     A strong sense of intuition and ability to make decisions on the fly

     A commitment to community organizing as a means of social change

     Personal commitment to undoing institutional racism and advancing social, environmental, and economic justice

     A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle

     Strong interpersonal skills

     Good sense of humor

     Ability to thrive in an open office with a fast-paced, campaign-style work environment

     Ability to work weekends and evenings when necessary

     A strong self-starter with a proclivity for developing systems

     Tech savvy, experience using social media platforms, online databases, and Microsoft Office software.  Experience using NGP VAN or similar voter file database a plus. 

 

Desired Qualifications- These skills or experiences are not required for an applicant to be competitive.

     Experience with distributed or swarm-theory organizing

     Experience using relational organizing tools including MyRVP, Reach or Motivote

     Experience with Every Action or volunteer management software, peer-to-peer texting tools like ThruText (previously Relay) or Hustle, and auto-dial software like Callfire

     Fluency in Spanish

     Familiarity with Washington State politics and communities

     Existing relationships with leaders in Clark, Pierce, and/or King County

 

Location:

This organizer will be working across Western Washington with a preference for Seattle. Greater King County or Pierce County will be considered.

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary $50,000 - 55,000 depending on experience.
