Overview

Faith in Public Life seeks a talented, self-motivated organizer to provide ongoing engagement in legislative and voter education and mobilization programs to support the repairing of democracy in Florida and the nation. The organizer will work to assist and support Faith in Public Life's Florida Director and will work primarily with clergy and faith leaders to bring about political and legislative change in Florida in 2020. This year, congregations will engage in our shared values that support democracy reform and the organizer will educate and mobilize them towards moral action.


About Faith in Public Life 

Faith in Public Life and Faith in Public Life Action is a national network of nearly 50,000 clergy and faith leaders united in the prophetic pursuit of justice and the common good. With staff in four states and growing, we work closely with our members to take strategic moral action that shapes policy both locally and nationally.

We believe that faith leaders have unique moral power to influence public debates and build more just and equitable communities.


Responsibilities

Will include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Track and engage on national and state democracy reform legislation, including voting rights, and conduct moral actions to support electorate expansion. 

  • Help lay the groundwork for and implement civic engagement programs and 2020 voter education and mobilization programs. 

  • Collect voter program materials and enter data on a daily basis. 

  • Track any emerging democracy reform legislation and or ballot initiatives, and support on emerging needs on different issues that could range from immigration to economic justice. 

  • Train African-American faith leaders on Get Out The Vote best practices. 

  • Build relationships with prominent African-American pastors, church staff, key connectors and political influencers. 

  • Conduct earned media actions, such as managing press conferences, and social media. 

 

Qualifications

  • A "people person" with strong communication skills, ability to be persistent and persuasive in reaching out to the faith community via phone and email.

  • Attention to detail. 

  • Experience working in faith-based communities, communities of color, and with diverse backgrounds and points of view. 

  • Comfortable talking to pastors and working with people of faith, across all faith traditions and denominations. 

  • Comfortable working in political spaces and with elected officials. 

  • Nice to have: experience working with the voter file or 'VAN.' 

  • Able to manage temporary staff, i.e., canvassers.

  • You are fearless and persistent when it comes to reaching out to others.   

  • You are detail-oriented and love to keep organized lists. 

  • You have a valid driver's license and car, a satisfactory driving record and auto insurance, and are willing to travel overnight as needed.


Compensation and Benefits

This is an associate level position with a salary range of $40,000 to $45,000 dependent upon location-based cost of living and experience. 


We offer generous and comprehensive benefits including full medical, dental and vision premium coverage, life insurance, and an FSA/DCA savings plan. We also offer an up to 6% 403b plan contribution and a commuter, cell phone and professional development stipend. We provide 15 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick days, 10 paid federal holidays, and additional paid administrative leave, including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
