PRESS SECRETARY – Virginia House Democratic Caucus
The Virginia House Democratic Caucus seeks a highly skilled Press Secretary to oversee press relations, media messaging (press releases, etc.), rapid response and digital strategy for the caucus. They will work closely with the Executive Director, Speaker's office, Majority Leader and Caucus Chair to set strategic communications goals.
The Press Secretary should have the skills and ability to:
• Ensure message continuity across all external communications products
• Act as the primary on the record spokesperson for the House Democratic Caucus
• Manage media requests and developing and maintaining relationships with local and national reporters and bloggers covering Virginia politics
• Draft press releases, talking points and other media outreach materials
• Facilitate press conferences and other earned media events
• Work with a team to develop and manage a robust social media program
• Staff and arranging media interviews for caucus leadership and members
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Minimum of 2 years experience working in communications role
• Significant on-the-record experience
• Excellent writing skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Virginia ties preferred but not required
